I was excited to try authentic African cuisine at Zag, and the food did not disappoint. The restaurant is conveniently located with ample parking. When we arrived, only one other table was occupied, so we were seated immediately. The host was friendly and helpful in explaining the menu, though she noted the prices listed were outdated.
We ordered the Asun, which was fantastic but very spicy—beware if you’re sensitive to heat! The jerk chicken with jollof rice was another highlight; the chicken was perfectly seasoned and so tender it fell off the bone. The food was truly delicious.
However, I gave Zag three stars due to a few issues. The restaurant’s cleanliness needs improvement—our cutlery wasn’t properly washed and had to be replaced. There were also too few paper napkins provided.
Pricing: It’s on the expensive side, with one appetizer and one entree costing just over $50.
Overall, while the food was outstanding, the high prices and cleanliness issues detracted from the experience.

Been meaning to leave a review for a while. I absolutely adore this place and have been multiple times.
Usually there’s only one person there running the place so the food is slow to come out but the wait has never not been worth it. I love the pepper stew the most but honesty anything here is awesome. I usually take my partner or a friend so we can have long talks with good food and the space has always been great for that.
I wish it was less expensive but honestly only because I would be there all the time.

Very nice place in the Colony. I had a plate of Jollof Rice, Jerk Chicken and cabbage on the side. Everything was delicious.
Fun fact: Chef Lanre is also the creator of Jiffy Jollof sauce. Look it up and try it!! It’s really good!!

We had an amazing experience, and everything was absolutely delicious! My daughters had been eager to try pounded yam and Egusi, and it did not disappoint. Presentation was beautiful! The flavors were bold and authentic, and the dish was incredibly satisfying. The guava drink was the perfect complement..refreshing, rich, and full of flavor. We can’t wait to come back!

Zag Afro-Fusion Cuisine is a must visit if you are in the North Dallas area. The food is quite delicious. I had their jollof, fish and dodo (fried plantain) and it was a burst of flavors. My husband can’t stop raving about their jerk chicken. This is the place to go if you want a nice “home cooked” Nigerian meal.
(UPDATE: Long wait times for food)

Everything was a little too spicy and salty to my liking even with the sweet flavor of fufu but I am very glad to have experienced trying African food! The restaurant’s ambience and service were great.

This is the ONLY PLACE I go to NOW when I’m craving pounded yams and egusi. The portions are just right and the flavors is phenomenal. Service is always great and the atmosphere isn’t bad.

Love the location, my food was ready, and waiting on me as soon as I arrived. I had Jollof Rice w/Beef & Fried Plantain. 10/10! Would highly recommend their food to anyone! The Jollof is like party Jollof! SO GOOD! Go support them!

Bought fufu and the soup it came with I don’t remember the name. Came home and tried it. As soon as I opened the soup it smelled so bad. Taste was horrible. I have really great African food and went to this place since I was around that area. Not happy with the food or customer service. The lady who took my order was super rude. She didn’t even smile with me. And took more than 30 minutes to give my food. The place was empty when I got there. Maybe the reason is the food. Once you tried it you’re not going back for sure.
