Zacatecas Mexican Grill & Tequila Lounge in Neenah has a presence the moment you walk in. Warm atmosphere. Confident layout. A staff that moves with steady purpose and never feels rushed or distracted. The place feels cared for and it shows fast.
The opening round of chips and salsa hits with real freshness. Crisp chips. Bright salsa. A simple start done right.
The plates that followed had a clear standout. The seafood chimichangas were the kind of dish that makes you pause for a second before the next bite. Three small pockets with a clean crunch on the outside and rich flavor on the inside. Paired with rice and beans that tasted thoughtful instead of automatic. That plate carried the meal without trying.
The enchiladas entered the picture as a quieter part of the table. Good flavor. Solid execution. A dependable dish that sits in the middle of the lineup without needing any spotlight. Not the star of the night, but absolutely part of the experience.
What makes Zacatecas work is the rhythm of the whole visit. Good energy. Confident service. Strong dishes with a few true highlights. It is the kind of place you walk out of thinking about which plate you want to try next time.
A real Neenah gem with heart, flavor, and a steady sense of pride in what they serve. Five stars because it earns them.

My partner and I moved to the area recently and tried Zacatecas for the first time tonight. Our experience was 10/10 across the board. Manuel, our server, was very kind and attentive. My partner and I both ordered off the specials menu. Everything tasted extremely fresh and vibrant. We highly recommend the habanero/mango/peach margarita (if you like spicy stuff). We will definitely be back:)

We’ve tried to support this local restaurant and it has important upsides, the food and the service being two of them. But you cannot depend on just how the experience will work out. They have rules here, and unfortunately, you’re not sure what all of them are, when they’ll be enforced, or how. There were times in the past we’d show up to a relatively deserted restaurant minus a reservation, and we’d be turned away. Even down to the rope they have that greets you upon arrival: you’re not certain they’re going to let you in. Tonight they let us in and we headed to the bar area to be seated (a request my wife made on the phone which was granted by the owner) only to be told that area, which had no one there, was reserved. Thus, we allowed ourselves to be led to a table in the main area, also bereft of customers, about as close to the bathrooms as you can get. After a brief discussion, we decided to put on our coats and leave. The owner saw this and said something to the effect of, “You wanted a table in the bar? Did you request that?” Yes and yes, a request you said wouldn’t be a problem. We had an excellent margarita and the food was good, but it’s deflating when you’re treated a little bit like you don’t belong. Or maybe we just aren’t following the rules properly. It’s almost Seinfeldian. But we have tried. I wouldn’t talk anyone out of going here, because you’ll have an excellent waiter, a tremendous drink (the owner is the drinkmaker and really knows his stuff), and most likely a very good (albeit pricey) entree. But I’d encourage you to pay attention to the subtleties of the experience. We think there are opportunities missed here by the management, not necessarily huge, but certainly fundamental to ensuring customers feel appreciated and are being treated to an elevated experience. We did not feel appreciated tonight, and what we thought was going to be a wonderful evening was a bit of a downer.

Yummy upscale Mexican restaurant. The margaritas are hand crafted and the food is made with care- my go to is the besame mucho margarita and mole enchiladas. I appreciate that they will honor a vegetarian request for veggie enchiladas with mole. Guacamole is tasty and fresh. Service is always top notch. Highly recommend calling first or ahead of time for a reservation especially on weekends.

Always 5 star service and food/drinks when we eat at the restaurant, but tonight we had the honor of trying their catering services and were equally satisfied. Arnesto and his team have done it again. I said to a friend I want to come up with a reason to host a party just to have Zacatecas cater it.

To preface, this is not a standard inexpensive Mexican restaurant. This restaurant offers elevated latin dishes. Their margaritas were excellent and shockingly potent. The special flameado and guac were also good. They have a variety of tasty salsas that are not for the faint of heart- they boast bold flavors and spice profiles. The special enchiladas and the fajitas were fantastic as well.
Overall if you are looking for elevated Mexican fare this place delivers and far outpaces other establishments we have found in the Fox valley.

Was honestly bummed by my experience. Got the besame mucho margarita and chicken enchiladas with red sauce and both were good but not exceptional, and I definitely don’t think either were worth the price. Enchiladas could have been more flavorful, and margarita was small and nothing special. The salsa was warm which was interesting but almost tasted like ketchup or tomato soup. Was originally confused by why they would charge for salsa and chips after the first bowl/basket, but ended up not wanting more anyway. Service was good, some might appreciate the explanation of specials with pictures presented by the server via ipad. Overall, you can get good service, bigger portions and/or more flavorful food for the same or less money elsewhere, so I don’t feel the need to come back.

Omg, where do I start!? EVERYTHING was sublime from the minute we stepped in the door. Ernesto gave us a detailed description of the menu with beautiful pictures. Our server Manny provided exceptional service and was so sweet and friendly. The drinks were amazing. I LOVED the Chipotle Margarita rimmed with Tajin. We each had a different entree and each one tasted magnificent as well as being visually stunning. Cannot wait to come back!

Service was over the top. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The waiter explained what the specials were for the day and included pictures of what they looked like. ( personally I like to see what my food looks like…so that was super neat). The food was out of this world incredible not to mention the drinks we had…! We will be coming back ! Finally a resturant with good food and service.

Let me start off with if your in a rush this isn’t the place to go. But if you want the best meal you have ever had, this is the place to be. I have spent many years in the military and traveled all over the world and may have had my best meal ever here. We did sit at the bar which has a limited menu but none the less it was still amazing. Ernesto, our bartender walked us through everything. We tried 4 different Margarita’s (all of which are infused and on the rocks). They did not disappoint. We followed it up with oysters in the shell. For the entree we had Grouper, shrimp, octopus, on rice and grilled in pineapple halves. If your looking for a great date night, give them a call, reserve a spot (as with any place right now they are running short staffed) and get here as soon as you can!!! If I could give more stars I would!
