Had really good options for vegetarians.
We had Spicy fried rice with veggies, Pad Thai veg, and Garlic chives dumplings. The best one was the Spicy fried rice
This place has a nice modern vibe, was full of energy and just a great environment. Our server was very prompt and helpful.
The food was fresh and fantastic. It was honestly some of the best sushi I have ever had and I have eaten A LOT of sushi over the years.
We will be back soon and I will post additional thoughts and pictures after a few more visits to ZAAP.
The Khao soi was very flavorful, but for a menu that touts it as “the real deal from the streets of Chiang Mai”, it was disappointing they didn’t use dark meat chicken / whole drumsticks. The rest of the dishes, including pad see ew, basil pork belly, son in law eggs, and a dry duck bowl, were very good.
The sushi was disappointing. Thick rice, lack of filling. See attached Pic of a piece of eel roll, see if you can spot the eel.
Service was good, food came out fast. The butterfly pea lemonade was tasty and sweet, and free refills!
I would come back here solely for the Thai food, but personally would look elsewhere for sushi.
The dish arrived flanked by a pair of noble allies — a warm soup and a crispy spring roll. Balance in the meal, there was. The tofu? Masterfully prepared. I chose medium spice, walking the fine line between the light and dark sides of the heat spectrum. Just enough kick to awaken the senses, but not so much that I’d be gasping like Vader after a jog.
Service? As attentive as a Jedi council meeting. Friendly, fast, and tuned in to every need — no mind tricks necessary.
The value? Reasonable it was, even for a smuggler on a budget. And if Pad Cody’s not your destiny, a full sushi menu awaits — a tempting path for those who follow the way of the fish.
Strong is the Force in Zapp Thai. Return, I shall.
Before ordering, I spoke directly with the Thai cook in the back (which I appreciated) and he recommended the Pad Kana Moo Krob (crispy pork with Chinese broccoli). I asked for it Thai spicy, but unfortunately the dish arrived only warm (not hot), and the spice level wasn’t anywhere near authentic Thai heat. The pork was a little cold, and worst of all, the dish was overwhelmingly salty I had to ask for extra rice to balance it out, and I still couldn’t finish it.
My friend ordered beef Pad Thai , and that dish was also disappointing. There was barely any flavor in either the sauce or the meat, which made the entire plate fall flat. Pad Thai is a staple Thai dish and should be flavorful and balanced this just felt bland.
I really wanted to like Zaap, and I still believe it has potential. The atmosphere is great and they seem to care about offering Thai dishes but the execution, seasoning, and service all need improvement. I hope they take feedback seriously, because with some adjustments, this could become a go to spot for good Thai food.
