Came here this past Sunday with two of my buddies for an early lunch. We had a 1 PM reservation but showed up about 30 minutes early. Thankfully, the host was kind enough to seat us right away since it wasn’t too busy. We went with the Diamond Ayce tier at $88 per person (or $78 if you have a Chubby membership).

For the special one-per-person dishes, we ordered the A5 Wagyu Tartare with caviar (x2) and the Uni Toro Bowl. The tartare was rich and flavorful, but I wish it came with some crusty bread or truffle chips to give it more texture. The Uni Toro Bowl was absolutely delicious and well-balanced.

You get to choose between Sukiyaki or Shabu-shabu broth. I honestly wish you could have both, because sukiyaki can get a bit sweet after a while depending on your taste.

The meat quality is right up there with other Chubby Group restaurants. I’ve been to Niku X, Chubby Cattle BBQ, and Mikiya Shabu Shabu House, and Yumiyaki definitely holds its own. The A5 selections were excellent, but the hotpot format makes it feel lighter and you can eat more without getting overwhelmed.
Favorites: A5 Chuckroll and A5 Wagyu Brisket.

One big advantage Yumiyaki has over Mikiya is the sushi and sashimi options. It’s a great palate cleanser when you’ve had a lot of wagyu. The sashimi platter was on par with high-end sushi spots. We loved the tuna so much we ended up getting an all-tuna platter. The A5 Wagyu with foie gras nigiri was another standout, with the foie gras complementing rather than overpowering the wagyu. The salmon and yellowtail carpaccio was just okay in comparison.

Service was top-notch. Jessica, our server, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. She explained the tier differences clearly and gave great recommendations that really enhanced our meal.

As expected with the Chubby Group, the ambiance felt upscale yet comfortable. The K-pop background music added good energy without being too loud, which made it easy to have a conversation.

Parking can be tough since it’s in Yes Plaza, which gets busy with other restaurants and shops. Definitely carpool if you can.

Overall, Yumiyaki delivered another solid dining experience from the Chubby team. Great quality, excellent service, and a fun vibe. I’ll definitely be recommending this place to friends and family.

It’s been getting quite cold outside (for Californian standards), which is the perfect time for sukiyaki. We’ve had Yumiyaki on our radar for a while now, and since I just subscribed to a Chubby Plus membership, we figured that now was as good a time as any to give them a try. You get a choice between shabu shabu or sukiyaki broth, and of course, we chose the sukiyaki. I personally prefer sukiyaki to traditional hot pot due to the sweeter broth. If you like your broth less sweet, you can ask your server to add more dashi. We also opted for the diamond menu, which gives each person a slice of A5 Ribeye. Your server will grill this initial premium piece of meat for you in a classic yakisuki style. First, they will grease the grill with a cube of fat and sprinkle a light amount of salt. Then, they pour a shallow amount of sukiyaki broth and briefly swish the meat in it before having you dip it in a saucer of raw, beaten egg and enjoy the rich, silky, indulgent bite. It was delicious – comparable to when I had it in Kyoto and much better than when I had it at Niku X. The diamond tier is worth it for that one bite alone. Even though I’ve already experienced it, I would get it again on my next visit.

After this presentation, your server will fill up the pot with the rest of the sukiyaki broth, and the rest of the cooking is up to you. Diamond tier gives you unlimited access to the A5 Chuck Roll, which Gold tier only gets 1 piece of. It’s very rich and fatty, and to maximize your enjoyment for the night, you should have multiple trays of it, especially because each order of the A5 Chuck Roll only comes with 2 pieces. The Wagyu Brisket was good, but a little outshined by other meats on the menu. For people that prefer something more lean, the Full Blood M9+ Shoulder Cut (a new menu item, I believe)  is an excellent option.

In addition to beef, Yumiyaki also offers a selection of seafood dishes to complement your meal, The Diamond tier gives you a choice from their 4 specialty dishes. We all chose the Otoro bowl with caviar, chopped Otoro served over a small bed of rice and a dollop of caviar on top. The Otoro was decent. I’m not a huge fan of presenting Otoro chopped because I feel like it takes away from the texture. It was still enjoyable, but I’ve definitely had better. I think if you’re going to have it chopped, a touch of freshness from chives or something would’ve been nice. Classic nigiri is available in AYCE fashion. We stuck to the salmon and bluefin tuna and had no complaints there. Diamond tier gives you additional access to the wagyu nigiri with foie gras and wagyu nigiri with caviar. They were good, but I would’ve liked more caviar and foie gras on each piece. Raw scallops, among other seafood items, are available to everyone in the buffet area as well, and they were delicious after simmering in our broth (please don’t eat those raw).

Service, however, was a little rocky. For the most part, our server was nice, got our meat out quickly, and frequently checked up on us, but sometimes seemed absent minded. Sometimes when I talked to this person, I wasn’t sure if they were paying attention to me. They also forgot to apply my Chubby Plus discounts. I’m glad I double checked my receipt, because I paid a hefty price for that membership, and I would hope I got all the benefits from it. We also had to ask for some things multiple times, such as refills on eggs and the receipt. The restaurant is quite small and we were among the last guests of the night, so I don’t understand why the service was so splotchy even though the restaurant was not very busy.

Aside from the occasional rough patches, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Yumiyaki and think that it is one of the better Chubby Group restaurants. I loved the yakisuki presentation and enjoyed the A5 Ribeye. The sukiyaki broth was so delicious. I would definitely come back to Yumiyaki and recommend it to my family and friends.

June 2024: Damnnnnnnnn, Yumiyaki is hella legit and totally worth it. The premium cuts of marbled meat were killer. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of them, and opt for the leaner choices so my favorites were the A5 Wayyu Shoulder Cut and A5 Chuck Roll.

I liked the A5 Wagyu Nigiri with foie gras off their Nigiri and Sushi menu.

Their vegetable, seafood and cold items bar was stacked. They have oolong milk tea and hot green tea available. There’s also a dope sauce bar for the meat and unlimited ice cream as well!

Our server, Nicole, was awesome and checked up on us often. She went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, and behind every great server is also a fantastic team of hard-working chefs, expediters and bussers.

I’m looking forward to coming back soon!

Update one year later (May 2025): the shoulder cut is my favorite! Nicole happened to be our server again. She’s an absolute rock star and even remembered me. Austin was also crushing it as an expeditor and busser. Love Yumiyaki and can’t wait to come back.

High quality beef and stuff very nice, I like M9 chuck more than A5, it’s less fat. My favorite is A5 shoulder, tender and juice, seconds in a pot and it’s ready good. Good mike tea too.

I had dinner at Yumiyaki in Rowland Heights and it was unforgettable. The highlight? The meat. They offer wagyu beef that’s absolutely divine—so tender and flavorful. It’s clear they prioritize high-quality ingredients. But it wasn’t just the food that impressed me; the service was outstanding. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in making my experience great. They offered fantastic recommendations and really paid attention to the details. This visit felt like more than just a meal; it was a complete dining experience. Great food paired with exceptional service—I’m already looking forward to going back.

Great food, service and atmosphere!

For AYCE this is worth the premium price for high quality wagyu cuts, sushi and sashimi.

There’s also a self serve area for unlimited side dishes, sauce bar, fountain drinks (which includes Chubby milk tea and hot tea), minced wagyu beef & rice, ice cream and additional ingredients for your sukiyaki or shabu.

The staff were very attentive and check in regularly so we always had our plates full.

Would recommend signing up for membership too if you plan to come often.

Love this sukiyuki restaurant! We get the standard vision, and it’s very good! The meat quality is excellent, and melts in my mouth. The sushi is fresh, and I like their tuna sashimi as well. Curry is pretty good. Their milk tea is pretty good quality, and I recommend you try it. I definitely will come back to try better vision here. I recommend people come here early so parking and waiting time would be less, and make sure to eat wagyu as much as possible if you are hungry.

Weekend lunch visit revealed limited space; mainly small tables (up to 4 people). Despite the wait, the staff were exceptionally friendly, and organized. They prioritized serving premium dishes, starting with the exquisite shabu soup base. We then delighted in selecting our own side dishes, drinks, and desserts. The meat quality surpassed expectations, and the sashimi was divine. A must try experience.

Came here to celebrate an anniversary on a Tuesday around 4pm and there was no wait. We had a reservation setup before, just in case. When we arrived there was another table and then us. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so I can see why the wait time can get long during prime meal times and weekends.

The side/vegetable bar and drink area was a bit cramped, and I’m so glad we went the time we did. I cannot imagine more than a couple of people comfortably in that area reaching around to grab food and drinks.

We chose the diamond tier and got sukiyaki as the base. We love getting sukiyaki because we get to dip meat into a beaten egg and it just makes the meats that much better. The meats were so silky and so tender in itself, but even more so being enveloped in egg. Each bite became a core memory, and I believe a few tears were shed. We enjoyed the meal so much we had to get a membership to come back.

The service and food were phenomenal. My boyfriend and I eat out a lot, and we both agreed Yumiyaki is probably one of the most memorable meals we’ve had this year thus far. Although not everything was to our liking, such as the uni toro or wagyu tartare dish or sashimi carpaccio (a personal preference), the amazing melt-in-your-mouth meats made up for it. We definitely think this place is worth it for the price, although we don’t think we’d get the diamond tier again just because we don’t personally care for premium options. Service was fast and very attentive. The only thing I could see being a bit annoying is the 90 minute time limit. When we were there, they were very strict with it and that’s when it wasn’t busy. But I also understand that the time limit is necessary during busy times, but also so that no one eats their bodyweight in A5 lol
