My favorite Asian cuisine is Japanese, hands down. The downside is, they tend to be more on the expensive side, but whenever I go it’s such a treat.

Located in a more residential pocket of Glen Park on Monterey Boulevard, the restaurant doesn’t really stand out from the roadway, it’s fairly nondescript. To me though, the unpretentious, unobtrusive nature of its facade is kind of alluring, almost like being part of a small club that knows a certain speakeasy of bygone days. What’s more, it’s not easy to find street parking in these parts, so it’s a bit inconvenient.

However, once you get past finding a parking spot and locating this place, this place is charming, if not intimate, and it has that Japanese vibe. The menu has ample offerings you’d find in any typical Japanese place, but I’m inclined to order their sushi rolls which tend to be generous and reasonably priced.

During lunch and afternoons are my recommended hours as it’s not crowded and guess what? Finding parking is easier. It’s definitely a neighborhood spot and it’s one of the reasons why I love San Francisco restaurants, small independently owned places, each with its own character and distinction.

The food is good, reliably consistent and at least the times I’ve been there, the service is super fast. But then again, I go at non-peak hours.

Good luck finding parking and enjoy your visit.

This place deserves all the STARS it is SUPER GOOD! The salmon here felt like butter, and everything that they brought out was super well made and fresh. I really wish I had ordered the Salmon Lovers role, but ordered the spicy salmon role, and it was delicious, too. Since many google reviews mentioned the Dynamite role, also tried that but didn’t love it. There was nothing wrong with it, but it was not my favorite. Again, order ANYTHING salmon!! service was super attentive and kind. They have these really cute booths that make it feel very intimate and comfortable. Order take out or make it a dinner night out date. It was so worth it

Pleasantly surprised !!! This spot is in our neighborhood and wanted to give it a chance.
The nigiri was well crafted, good flavor and a nice mouthfeel. We tried amaebi, sake belly, sample of the toros. Chu -toro was the star. I like how the amaebi had roe on top. It was a nice touch.

The rolls were all nice portions and well balanced rice ratio. We had the deluxe California roll and rock and roll.
My hubby loved the salmon skin hand roll. It was large and very flavorful. The presentation of the hand roll was beautiful.
Agedashi was great, the daishi could have more depth but nice crispy and pretty plate.

One of the better neighborhood sushi spots we’ve been to lately.

Extremely sweet staff and delicious food!
Friend recommend us this place after a hike as she said it was quite good, and she definitely was right. ^^ I had a few different items from the menu and if anything, I wish I had gotten more!
Had a small chat with one of the staff members as well after eating, and even hugged him hh, really nice when it can be as laid back as that.
The decoration is also very cute!

Excellent neighborhood restaurant!

Unassuming location and a bit of an obscure entrance enhance the serene romantic atmosphere basked in half lights.

Neat and clean, every table is welcoming.

Dishes are varied, well presented and minimalistic without missing any of the traditional Japanese comfort flavors I am accustomed to. Tasty sushi, good miso, great vegetable tempura and warm and crunchy croquettes make the evening an excellent culinary experience.

Update 2025
Still one of the best neighborhood sushi / Japanese food restaurants. Good food. Cozy.

Yume is an excellent neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Everything we had was very good. Is it nuanced haute cuisine? No. However, overall we really liked the food, the service, and the general atmosphere. And… my wife and I came during happy hour and waddled out, having spent less than a fancy pizza. Four thumbs up!

I ordered take out – Rock’N Roll, Albacore Tataki, and Yume Roll. I came earlier and got to see the staff prepare my takeout – which was cool! I think the Albacore Tataki should be eaten at the restaurant since the ponzu sauce ended up pouring out of the container.
I was enticed by the happy hour menu and might come back after work!

Went for our first time on a Friday at 5:30pm, and got there right in time before their happy hour ended at 6pm. Wait staff was really nice and food was good, would go back again as my neighborhood sushi joint. Parking was also super easy on Monterey Ave.

Good fresh fish comes with cold air! We were 3, we were served well and got great sushi and nigiri and end with mochi! For some reason they have tiramisu on their desert menu, but I would take that off if I were in charge unless it’s a really really really good tiramisu. Otherwise, it doesn’t match!

After the ownership changed, the food quality went back up where it used to be. We took the premium 10 ps sashimy. It was tasty and well presented, but overpriced to my taste. The rainbow roll was good. The waitress was very nice. The restaurant is usually half empty, so it is quiet and good for having a conversation.
