Upon entering we were met with a lukewarm greeting. When we asked to do the hibachi tables we were questioned if we were both buying lunch, in a sort of judgy or “won’t be able to seat us” was if we said we were going to share.
For how empty it was at lunch, I was hopeful to have quick service. Unfortunately, that was not the case. It took a while for the dated table to get warm and only ordering sodas took a little bit. About 30 mins into after being seated was the chef finally coming out.
We got hibachi lunch, which is a much smaller portion than the normal. I recalled in the past it came with the usual soup and salad, but I could be mistaken since we were asked if we wanted one or the other.
Our chef was friendly, but you could tell there was 0 passion. I recalled the days of getting a grandiose show, vegetables flying, saki squirting everywhere, but sadly this time it was right to the point. The performance was very underwhelming too as the only main highlight was the onion volcano, but the rest was fumbled upon or missed completely. With that, our chef was also wearing his AirPod the entire time, which just added to the disinterested aspect. All said, the cook show aspect lasted only 4 minutes, which leads me to my next concern – the cook of the food.
The food is where I am sad to say this place really has dropped the ball. Lunch used to come with A LOT more food and for a lower price. I understand the economy is rough right now, but cutting back on portions while raising the prices for lesser quality food is sad. The rice was well done but not too fried as I am used to. The vegetables were great and both were well costed in the teriyaki sauce.
Now to the meats. When we saw our chef cut up the meat, I could see it was very much raw. We both got steak and asked for medium rare as other reviews said they have typically overcooked their meats. I wish this was the case for us. After slicing the meat, sadly he just seared the edges and gave it to us. I was eating and the bigger pieces started to be harder to chew. Eventually I bit halfway into one to inspect and it was absolutely cold and raw red in the middle. I attached an image of that for your reference.
When we were done the meal, I brought to the attention of the hostess that my steak was cold and raw in the middle to which I was offered a “sorry” as she grabbed my dish walked away and back with the check.
I am sad that this once loved place really declined in the last year or so. I hope they take these reviews to heart and change back to their old ways.
The waiter also mistook my order and only provided us one ramen for two adults. Minus two stars for that.
The fried rice and maki was fine.
