Yuan is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in Jersey City. From the moment you walk in, the place feels welcoming, clean, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for both a casual meal and a special dinner.
The food is outstanding. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor, made with fresh ingredients, and perfectly balanced—not overly greasy or heavy. You can truly taste the authenticity and care in the cooking. Portions are generous, presentation is great, and everything comes out hot and fresh.
The service deserves a special mention—attentive, friendly, and efficient without ever feeling rushed. The staff is happy to make recommendations and ensures you have a great dining experience.

The atmosphere here is great — clean, comfortable, and very welcoming. The restaurant is quite popular, so during peak meal times you may need to wait in line, which already says a lot about how good it is.
The food was excellent. All the ingredients tasted very fresh, especially the vegetables, which were crisp and flavorful. We ordered their signature paper-wrapped fish, which was good, but my favorite dish was definitely the double pepper diced chicken. It was incredibly tasty and very satisfying with rice — truly a perfect “rice companion.”
Overall, great food, a clean environment, and a lively vibe. I would definitely come back again.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Yuan in Jersey City! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—each dish truly stood out. We tried the Chicken in Numbing Chili Oil, which had the perfect balance of heat and that signature Szechuan tingle, along with the Wonton in Chili Sauce, packed with bold, comforting flavors.
The Stir-Fried Noodles were perfectly cooked and satisfying, while the Braised Fish in Szechuan Bean Sauce was rich, aromatic, and full of depth. The Szechuan Dry Fried Chicken was crispy, spicy, and absolutely addictive. To end on a sweet note, the Brown Sugar Rice Cake was soft, chewy, and just the right amount of sweet.
The ambiance is modern yet cozy, and the service was friendly and attentive. If you’re in Jersey City and love authentic Szechuan cuisine, Yuan is a must-visit. Highly recommend—can’t wait to go back! ️

If you’re in Jersey City and craving real Chinese comfort food, put this place on your list. We ordered a bunch of dishes, but the crab roe tofu was hands down the best thing on the table. It’s so fresh and flavorful — the tofu is silky, the crab roe gives it this deep savory richness, and it pairs perfectly with steamed rice. I literally had two bowls of rice just for that dish alone. The pork dumplings surprised me too , the filling is generous and juicy, with no gamey taste at all (and I’m usually picky about pork). The ginger chicken and dry pot cauliflower were also solid. Great portions, fair prices, and that home-cooked feel. Highly recommend!

The spicy paper-wrapped sea bass is tender and super flavorful. The pickled cabbage beef is the MVP — I could eat four bowls of rice with that alone. The dry chili chicken is the best I’ve had in NJ (more chicken than peppers!), and the stir-fried cabbage with pork cracklings is so satisfying.
Great portions, reasonable prices, and perfect location near the mall. Come hungry.

Came here with friends and ended up clearing every plate. The dishes look like simple home-style Chinese food, but each one has its own standout flavor.
The ginger chicken was tender and fragrant, the fresh pepper pork had great texture, and the shrimp with glass noodles and tofu was rich and extremely good with rice. Even the greens were a surprise — light but very flavorful.
Portions are generous and prices are reasonable for the area (around $40 per person). Definitely a solid spot for sharing dishes and a satisfying meal. Parking can take a bit of time, but it’s worth it.

I visited Yuan while shopping around Newport and had a great experience. The standout dish was the dry-braised Oyster King mushroom, full of wok aroma, flavorful, and surprisingly more satisfying than many meat dishes. The yellow chives with squid were also excellent, with tender squid and fragrant garlic that wasn’t spicy at all. The spicy double crispy had great texture, and the bamboo shoot duck soup was comforting but more subtle. We asked for less salt, and the seasoning was adjusted perfectly. Clean, cozy space and a convenient location. Would come back again.

The best Szechuan place in town, and it can be easily be the best in NJ. The century eggs could be offensive to certain people, but they made the dish really refreshing. The cold dishes were fantastic! The tender mapo tofu was delicious with the updated Szechuan sauces, hot but not overly oily, right amount of mixed meat and garlic. Love to be back here more often. The staff were wonderful as well! Big plus!

Really enjoyed this place. The stir-fried fresh squid with yellow chives was hands down the best dish — super fresh, perfectly salty and spicy, and honestly addictive. I’d 100% come back just for that, and it goes amazingly well with rice.
The Chongqing wanzha noodles were flavorful with a nice spicy kick, the duck soup with dried bamboo shoots was warm and comforting, and the garlic foil-wrapped whole fish had great seasoning. Overall a great meal, but the squid is absolutely the reason I’d come back.

While strolling through Newport Mall with a friend, we were both somehow drawn—without even saying a word—to 小花园 Yuan right across from the PATH station, and decided to walk in at the exact same moment. Clearly, foodies think alike. The restaurant focuses on modern Chinese fusion, but the flavors felt comforting and home-style, with plenty of fresh greens and plants throughout the space—light, cozy, and true to its name “Little Garden.” We ordered several dishes and found them to be great value for the Newport area, with generous portions: the cold eggplant with roasted pepper sauce was light and refreshing, the marinated duck tongues were savory and slightly spicy with peanuts, and the paper-wrapped fish was the star—fresh live sea bass, perfectly cooked, huge portion, and very satisfying with rice (you can choose mala, garlic, or pickled pepper). The spicy crispy chicken had an authentic Sichuan kick, and the stir-fried Shanghai greens were a perfect, refreshing balance to the table
