Best sushi joint ever!
Been going there since 1993 with my best friend, & to this day, I can’t get THIS sushi ANYWHERE else. Love ALL the guys who run this place, I’ve known them forever, it seems. Yes, I go to other places, but when I want real sushi, and a great well experienced sushi bar, I come home…I come to Yu-Shang. Oh, they have excellent Chinese food too!

30 years and going, this place is in control of its destiny, hard working people delivering good food. Went with someone that has been going there for years and ordered the Fresh Crab Salad and it was spot on with the sweetness on the bottom dusted with the right amount of flavor and that fresh crab, then we had the dragon roll with unagi, it was also good and the whole thing was enjoyable

Yu Shang in San Rafael is by far the best sushi you will ever have. From the moment you step inside, the staff greets you like an old friend, remembering not just your name but who you used to come with…talk about a personal touch. This place embodies everything I love about unassuming spots that deliver top-tier food and service.

I always kick things off with their fresh cabbage salad with added crab special, an Unagi Tamaki hand roll….each bite is perfection. And when I want to indulge, I go for one of their fabulous roll. My go-to is the Darkside of the Moon Roll with fresh fish on top. It’s consistently incredible and keeps me coming back for more.

Between the welcoming atmosphere, impeccable service, and unforgettable flavors, Yu Shang has earned its spot as my favorite sushi destination.

The restaurant space creates a cozy feeling with a quite diverse menu.

The sushi is fresh and delicious, so it depends on the day to have different types of seafood. But overall, the food is delicious. The restaurant’s seasoning is just right.

The sushi waiters talk a bit rudely, but the waiters are friendly, and the owner is very cute, so that’s a big plus.

Will come back.

Food was great, chefs at the sushi bar are super friendly, overall pretty good experience.
Downside- lack of transparency with the bill, they give you a hand written check with no much telling apart what is what and what the prices are, (asked for one where the it will be itemized) guy brought back a number? That’s a NO especially if you’re in a group. Secondly place is in need of a renovation.

Yu Shang has been my favorite Chinese(they also serve Japanese & Sushi w/a Full Sushi Bar + Chef w/TVs) food restaurant ever since I moved to the San Francisco, CA Bay area. Their sushi is top notch, with a large Full Sushi Bar that’s separate from the main dining area. My favorite dish is the General Tsao Chicken. It’s good as a takeout order but if you want the BEST General Tsao Chicken that you’ve ever tasted then order it when dining in Yu Shang. The General Tsao Chicken comes out as a large portion, piping hot and looking scrumptious presented with the freshest/greenest broccoli I’ve ever seen. It’s similar to Orange Chicken, with a hint of spice and each bite is crunchy/chewy bliss. I enjoy it with white rice and their Pot Stickers are also solid. The Pot Stickers are pork and very large in size and delicious, I’m not sure if you can order them with chicken or another way. There’s limited street parking directly in front of Yu Shang so you might have to park a block away and walk but it’s well worth it. You will not regret your trip to dine at Yu Shang Restaurant.

Decent, albeit a little over priced. The roles are consistently good. The fish is hit and miss, but mostly hit The staff is super friendly. My wife and I have been eating there for over 30 years. It was always a go-to for decent, fast, and reasonably priced. Like many restaurants, post covid, it’s not so reasonably priced anymore.

I’ll still go two to three times a month

04.26.24 Driving thru on our way to Willits to view property, we were so hungry we figured we weren’t going to make it to downtown San Rafael, googled for Asian restaurants near me while still at the gas station and this is the 1st to pop up (closest to me/near Hwy 101N), had 4.5+ reviews and went with it.

We all got the lunch specials, probably the best priced food ANYWHERE, HUGE portions, I think due to serving all of the construction/service crew who frequent this establishment. The Hot & Sour Soup that came with the meal was piping hot, fresh, delicious and very authentic (daughter added 1 sugar packet to her soup and declared it perfect).

*Their Mongolian Beef was delicious, fresh ingredients, hot, slightly sweet, crunchy vegetables!

*String Bean Beef (in Black Bean Sauce) was too salty & oily (extra oil maybe due to us requesting it be made Spicy(?)) but still tasty.

*We wouldn’t order the Szhechuan Beef again though as the beef is dusted in cornstarch, deep fried, then sauteed w.vegetables in red sauce. Tasted slightly bitter, no hint of sweetness (which daughter prefers), and was quite heavy.

Service by the young lady in glasses was very good!

We would revisit this restaurant again, though next time will request less salt & oil.

Extremely disappointed with both my order and the in-person service
The chicken and shrimp were undercooked.
I actually had to take them home and fry them again just to make them edible and safe to consume.
The behavior of one of the attendants was completely inappropriate.
Instead of focusing on service, she was clearly flirting with a guy at the other end of the counter.
Just my own order were $55 for a raw meat never going back there again.

The Mongolian chicken was bland and the vegetables in the szechuan chicken tasted weird and I was looking forward to it most. The best part of the meal was the fortune. We did take out, so we didn’t tip, and the moment the guy realized that he was in mid sentence of wishing us a good night, but stopped himself. You should never expect a tip for takeout. The tipping thing has gotten out of hand and I used to be a waitress. If I sat down and ate, that’s one thing, but we came and picked up the food and cleaned up after ourselves. Good customer service goes a long way.
