$20 for their “carbonara” pasta dish. We ordered TWO servings and the picture below is what we got. Our guess is the cook didn’t realize he was supposed to make two orders and only made one. When it was time to box it up, they split the order in two. Ridiculous! Old dehydrated pasta with no sauce, no cheese, no vegetables and a maybe a piece of pancetta in both servings is NOT carbonara.

Excellent beer options, fun dive bar vibe. They have darts. Staff is friendly and fun. The dark Czech beer is phenomenal. The cherry cider is also delish. Will absolutely be back.

I understand times are hard for everyone, especially the service industry, and I understand people are just doing their best. I would have said this to a service person, but I wasnt approached again after my food arrived. I spent over $30 for the smokehouse burger, fries and a non alcoholic beer. I ordered it medium and received it well done. There were very few mushrooms and the jalapeños were more chunks than slices and they were unpleasantly undercooked. The burger was also underseasoned. It’s rare I wish for more salt at a restaurant. I asked for a side of mustard, but they were out. When I asked if they had any in the back the bartender said they only had Dijon, and I would have to open a new tab for a 75 cent charge after I had already closed out my tab (and tipped 25%).
The fries were good at least. Maybe it was just an off night, but I’m disappointed that what I thought was my go to burger spot may not be anymore.

Decided to give Ypsi Alehouse a try after seeing some promising photos and reviews online. It’s located in downtown Ypsilanti, and we ordered through DoorDash to keep things easy.
I went with the 12-piece Buffalo wings, my wife ordered the chicken Caesar wrap, and we both agreed to try the Bavarian pretzel sticks as an appetizer. The food arrived in about 30 minutes, and at first glance, things looked good. My wings looked delicious, and the Caesar wrap appeared fresh and well-wrapped.
But then came the pretzel sticks… and that’s where things started going downhill.
They looked nothing like the photos — clearly frozen, straight-from-a-box pretzels that didn’t have any of the warm, soft, golden-brown appeal you’d expect. The beer cheese sauce they came with was thin, watery, and just… off. Honestly, I couldn’t even figure out what kind of cheese it was supposed to be.
Then came the wings. Despite the good looks, they were completely bland. No seasoning. Just a bit of hot sauce thrown on top as an afterthought. My wife took a bite of her wrap and had the same reaction — dry, flavorless, and disappointing.
Would I try this place again? Honestly, no. I don’t leave many negative reviews, but this one caught me off guard — especially because so many downtown Ypsi spots are usually solid. If you’re in the area, feel free to try it for yourself, but for us, it was a one-and-done experience.

Visited as one of the stops on “The Taste of Ypsilanti” tour. They offered a small glass (I assume the size of one of their flight cups) from a large variety of their beers. I tried their Octoberfest and it was pretty good. I do have a confession that I am not a beer drinker. So pretty good on my scale is a high remark considering I usually make the stinky gross face when I try most beers. The bartender was really nice and waited patiently while I fumbled through asking about how beer flavors go. After that he recommended that next time I try a Hefeweizen since from what I said I might like it over the Octoberfest since it’s lighter and crisper. With all the people in and out for the Taste of Ypsilanti tour I thought it was really good customer service to take the time and listen to someone who was just in and out for the tour. I can only imagine how good the service is when you actually stay for a while and get a meal. With that being said I didn’t try any food but look forward to going back to do that…and to try that Hefeweizen.

I really appreciate that there is live music AND that the music is at a volume where you can still talk to table mates. The beer is great, both quality and variety, and my wife enjoys the cider. The menu rotates and has a nice variety. I devoured the smoked wings. Burgers are excellent. Fries are tip top.

What can I say… I wasn’t really a burger person my whole life. Don’t get me wrong – I do like a burger once in a while, but that’s not my all time favorite and definitely not something I would actively seek when weighing my dining options. But then husband and I discovered Ypsi Alehouse! Now I catch myself dreaming about the place from time to time! Unfortunately, our schedules don’t allow us to go out more often, but honestly, they serve some of the best burgers I’ve had in my life! The other place is in Normandy, France

We were on the lookout for a new brewery after Wolverine closed (sad day). We tried Ypsi Alehouse and loved it! Really good food and beer, and the menu changes regularly. Definitely popular with the regulars but super welcoming to new comers. There is always something going on, especially live music. We really love this spot and will make this our go to brewery going forward.

We were here for friends’ jazz band performance (Fernwood Underground). The beers were wonderful and the food was amazing! Service was fast and friendly and the owner is very connected to the community and all tips collected were donated to the homeless resource program. We will be back again! (The Chicken Parm sandwich with fries is a must try!)

Used to like this place but yesterday afternoon when I went in to get some food, the kitchen manager was so unprofessional it was pathetic. I could hear him screaming and yelling at a worker in the kitchen. This isn’t the first time, either, but it definitely was the last. There was an older couple at the bar at the time and I was surprised they didn’t get up and walk out like I did. I never ordered anything and I refuse to give my business or my money to a business where they allow their manager to mistreat workers. Shame on you to the owner of this establishment. I gave your establishment another chance hoping that you had gotten rid of bad management, but apparently not. Do better!
