About the owner,
After over 20 years of experience behind notable sushi bars like Sushi Roku (Santa Monica, CA) and Bamboo Sushi (Portland, OR), Sushi Chef Yoshi Ikeda introduces his first self-titled concept to Portland, OR, Yoshi’s.
As a second-generation sushi chef, Chef Yoshi serves a fresh take on Japanese cuisine that is fortified in tradition. He challenges the expectations of what “good sushi” is and proves that deliciousness can be achieved in even the most modest of food service venues: the food cart.
Straightforward food cart featuring sushi rolls, sashimi & nigiri, plus seating.

So so so good. I feel like I haven’t had good salmon nigiri in a while and this slapped. My first time having tomago too and it was so underrated and love the branding. I need to come back and try everything. Yoshi is awesome too. Ordering is only by phone!

I can see why this cart has caught a lot of attention. The quality of fish for “cart food” is amazing. This easily beats some of top sushi places around Portland.

Obviously the ambiance is quite interesting since the only place to eat is either outside or in the glorified shed.

Yoshi’s Sushi is the real deal! Everything is incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. A standout surprise? They serve Japanese milk tea—something you rarely find outside of Japan or a specialty shop.
Highlights from my visit: the seared mahi-mahi tuna, homemade tamago, and the green roll with salmon were all phenomenal. I’m already looking forward to going back for their spicy tuna!
Pro tip: Call ahead to place your order—it’ll be ready when you arrive!

Wednesday, call at 10am, pick it up right at 12:05 after he opens. Rainy season moving in, a hot tuna belly katsu bowl + miso soup will in fact fix you.

As someone who waited a couple years to try this place because I was too lazy to call and order. I can say yes, it is worth calling in your order so you can try this amazing sushi. Chef Ikeda is slinging out some seriously delicious and fresh sushi outta this cart! My favourite was the seared albacore nigiri; the albacore was the most tender I’ve ever had. The rolls were creative, thoughtful and of course delicious. And the hand rolls I had here were stuffed with a generous portion of fish. Very happy I finally tried Yoshi’s!
