My boyfriend had ordered a pick up order of 5 rolls for us to eat tonight. He brought it home for us to enjoy only to be disappointed. The spicy mayo was SO SO sweet and the rice was WET. Not like a little soft, it was absolute mush and disgusting. The salmon had a weird aftertaste, the eel was nothing but fat, and all of the rolls were cut terribly and uneven causing them to fall apart when picked up. I ate one piece of each of my 3 rolls. My boyfriend ate maybe 4 pieces of his 2 rolls. Since we lived super close by, I requested he bring the food and show them to ask for a replacement. We figured they could hear us out and maybe this was just a mishap specifically with our food.
Listen, I worked the service industry for 20 years. Almost half of that in various sushi restaurants. I’m HALF JAPANESE, grew up eating rice my entire life, and I KNEW this food wasn’t right. My boyfriend is also cook for a private chef. We both understand how tough it is in this industry. figured this establishment would be understanding as long as we came in politely, brought the rolls to show them because that’s what we did at our place of work, especially had the quality come out like this. I’m not exaggerating. I’ll eat mediocre food and be whatever about it, but this was not enjoyable at all.
Well, turns out we were wrong. They gave us our money back but refused to replace the rolls because we ate a lot of it? We didn’t want the money, we wanted it corrected. But the back of house and their lack of care of the food. This will be the first and last time we’re going to this establishment. Bummer, we were hoping for a local establishment to support only to find out that integrity of your food means having an ego and pushing back on your food like it’s even edible. My boyfriend relayed they were quite rude about it; I’d say the most impressive about the dish is that you could make borderline porridge rice into a roll. 1/10 and that one point is for the kind hostess that took care of us. That’s about it.
The BOH’s ego will be the demise of this restaurant. If someone pays $60 for soggy sushi, maybe have some integrity to fix it.
We chose this restaurant based on its glowing five-star rating, expecting a memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, what we got was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Our group was quite large, and we were seated directly by the entrance on a cold, rainy evening. Every time the door opened, a gust of cold air swept through, making the entire meal uncomfortable. To make matters worse, our table was crammed next to the staircase leading to the upper level, and servers frequently bumped into one of our chairs as they passed by. It felt more like a hallway than a dining space.
The appetizers were the highlight of the meal—flavorful and well-prepared. Sadly, everything went downhill from there. I ordered the steak and shrimp, requesting the steak rare and substituting noodles for rice (with an extra charge). My plate arrived with rice instead, and while the server corrected it, the noodles were bland, the steak was overcooked, and the shrimp was terrible with no flavor. I genuinely regretted not sticking with the rice.
My sister ordered the lobster and barely touched it. It was chewy, overcooked, and simply unpleasant. For the quality of food we received, the prices were outrageous.
Service was another letdown. Our meals trickled out over a 40-minute span, leaving some of us finished before others had even started. The staff seemed overwhelmed and due to how busy it was, unfortunately inattentive, not by their own chosing. They did their best to “keep up.”
Even the restroom experience was disappointing. The toilet paper was nearly gone, and I had to use the last of it carefully. I informed the server, hoping no one else had to deal with that situation.
I truly wanted to enjoy this place, especially given its reputation. But based on our experience, I’m baffled by the high ratings and won’t be returning. Disappointed is an understatement.
The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and has a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are kind and attentive, and the service truly makes the dining experience even better. Our waitress was super nice and extremely helpful—she went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.
Overall, Yoimi Sushi is a fantastic spot for a satisfying meal. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for good sushi and a pleasant dining experience.
