We had such a fantastic experience here. I’m normally not someone who writes reviews, but this place genuinely felt different — enough that I wanted to take the time to say something about it.

We came for lunch today, and every dish felt thoughtful and intentional. You can immediately feel that the chef isn’t just “making food,” but really crafting it.

We started with the Seasonal Veggie Chirashi, and it completely blew me away. Each vegetable was prepared in its own unique way — finely cut, carefully marinated, and seasoned so that its natural aroma, texture, and flavor really stand out. All of those separate elements somehow come together beautifully in one bowl. It’s the kind of dish that makes you slow down and actually taste what you’re eating.

Sushi Chirashi Bowl:
Very fresh fish and beautifully balanced flavors. Nothing felt heavy or overdressed — just clean, high-quality ingredients that really speak for themselves.

Unagi Roll:
Rich and comforting without being overly sweet or saucy. The eel was tender, and the rice was seasoned just right. Very satisfying.

Black Cod Roll:
One of our favorites of the meal. The black cod was buttery and delicate, and the roll managed to feel both elegant and cozy at the same time. We’d definitely order it again.

You can really imagine how much work goes into each component here — ingredients are chopped with care, marinated thoughtfully, and prepared in ways that highlight their character. When you think about that level of attention and effort, it’s honestly surprising how affordable the prices are for food that tastes this refined. It truly feels close to Michelin-level quality.

Overall, this restaurant focuses on craft, quality, and letting each ingredient shine. If you’re someone who enjoys noticing subtle flavors, textures, and the heart that goes into cooking, you’ll absolutely appreciate this place. We left lunch feeling happy, impressed, and already talking about what we want to try next time.

We’d come back in a heartbeat.!

Ambiance (4.5/5):
High vaulted ceilings, modern Japandi styling, and lots of natural light make Yess feel cozy yet elevated. It felt like dining at a friend’s beautifully designed home. Only minor drawback was the Italian music, which felt a little out of place.

Service (5/5):
Our waiter was excellent—friendly, patient, and knowledgeable with great recommendations. We never felt rushed, waters were always refilled, and overall service was polished and attentive.

Food (4.5/5):
The sashimi salad was fresh and balanced, with kampachi, crisp greens, and bright ponzu. From the temaki set, standouts included the miso black cod (rich and smoky), yellowtail (perfect heat and freshness), and unagi (classic and well done). The fig & feta was interesting but not one I’d repeat. The sugaki oyster was the highlight—fresh, briny, and bright enough that I could’ve eaten a half dozen. The rotating menu makes each visit unique and exciting.

Overall:
Beautiful space, amazing service, and creative dishes that mostly hit the mark. I’ll definitely be back to see what new items appear on the menu.

Highly disappointed and dissatisfied. We were excited to try this place out for a birthday dinner for its great interior and were seated 15 mins early, which was great. Friendly hosts and honestly it started off great. We ordered Oysters ($10) porcini hunter’s soup ($20), and Sashimi ($26) for apps, Chirashi ($40) and Lobster Katsu Curry ($78) for mains. We were informed the menus is designed to be shared – all were served on a medium sized plate/soup plates – portion size for one person exactly. Definitely not for sharing. Additionally, service is extremely slow. Ordered these at 7:30 pm and got the last dish at 8:45 ish. One hour between apps and chirashi bowl. Crazy. Gobbled it up and just got the check and left. About 15 total customers at the restaurant with May empty seats.

We both mentioned the sashimi was the highlight of the items we ordered and everything else was fine, but based on the prices they’re subpar. Soup tasted similar to a dashi broth and just water down but on the salty end. Lobster doesn’t have a strong flavor, but the curry was bland itself so it didn’t even do justice. Rice was great. Chirashi bowl has about 8 pcs of sashimi for $40…come on..the worst portion size I’ve ever received for the price. We frequent Japanese restaurant all over LA and we splurge every weekend on food wherever we travel to and this was just sad. Hosts are great though.

Just take a look these pictures yourself and tell me if the costs justify these “shareable” portion sizes (don’t be fooled by the zoom). This was a perfect example of an “aesthetic trap” and really doesn’t even feel like a restaurant – a nice cafe that serves nice foods. There are way better dining options. Don’t recommend.

Progressive Japanese food that focuses on simplicity and freshness showcasing technique. They highlight their eel and we got the whole one to share. It can be a bit intimidating for people not familiar and a bit simple but the effort to prepare takes a lot. For the price, I wish it came with a side of rice or something to complement it. I really enjoyed the Tofu and Eggplant dish also. The Eggplant was super unique and cooked in a way I haven’t tried before and was very flavorful with a dark miso crust. The Corn and Sausage was unique too and presentation was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the Strawberry Shaved Ice for dessert. Great way to end!! Overall, the food is on the lighter side so if you’re looking for hearty or indulgent food this may not be the best pick. They serve smaller plates that are good to share between two people or a small group. Service was great though and super friendly.

I don’t often do reviews, but I’m compelled to write one since my experience was not it. They recommended the porcini and pear carpaccio, which is just thinly sliced mushrooms and a few small pieces of pear drowning in olive oil, all for $28. Then we got a summer salad, which they personally recommended. It was not even dressed and felt like a meal for sheep getting a special treat. That was $23. I will say if it wasn’t for the eggplant, I would give 1 star.

My friend and I dined here last night and to preface, this is very much a “LA” type restaurant; from the interior design to the open-kitchen concept, it is a bit untraditional but I really enjoyed it. We each ordered the daily sashimi, a spicy tuna temaki, a yellowtail temaki, and a drink each of us and left full but not stuffed. Each dish was artfully crafted and delicious. The kitchen is open and on full display. If you sit at the bar, you’re able to watch the chef and staff operate. I thought this was really cool! I loved seeing the big tuna fish in the back fridge. The fish itself was buttery and very fresh. The staff were all very kind and warm. Being that this restaurant is in the arts district, expect a unique dining experience. I’d definitely go back !

We were really excited for Yess and wanted to celebrate my parents birthday at a special place. Unfortunately, the food and service let us down. Super sleek and aesthetic open kitchen couldn’t make up for under-seasoned food, inexperienced wait-staff, and a kitchen struggling to keep pace on a busy Friday night. For more than $100+ per person, diners have the right to expect more.

A few shortcomings:

– Dishes came out slowly. After the fourth appetizer, our party were already full and sleepy.

– I had a nice glass of sake. I may have ordered more but the restaurant will never know because they never bothered to ask.

– Appetizers were quite tasty but main dishes were bland! All dishes could have used a bit more salt and flavor.

– We did enjoy the interesting desserts.

– Worst slight to our party was upon departure. We noticed the chef posing for a few photos with other guests as they left. We were preparing to do the same but as we approached he looked away and headed back to the kitchen. What did we do to get the cold shoulder, chef? Just spent almost a thousand dollars but got disrespected.

High level – very creative food, absolutely would go back again. Unagi-don was the only sort of mid item; everything else we had was amazing. Temakis were fantastic, chanterelles were great (very San Sebastián), black cod was amazing.

But something about it felt a little rough draft? Like they were still catching their stride? Which is tough at this price point.

But you should definitely go and check it out and lean into it.

Really one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in Los Angeles. The level is HIGH!
Service was super cool, relaxed but attentive with so much knowledge from the whole team.
The food was all of it incredible.
The wine list is REALLY amazing with rare sake and shochu, not a classic wine list that for me is a bit boring.
So so so so worth it – every penny was nicely spent.
Thank you for being really out of this world!

This place absolutely lives up to the hype. Every dish was on point, but the real star is the staff—their service, their stories, and the way they take the time to make sure you’re getting the best experience possible. It’s more than just a meal; it’s an experience
