I recently tried Yen Sushi in Scottsdale after seeing its 4.9 rating on Google, so I went in with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite match the reviews.
The restaurant itself looks fine and has a casual, local vibe. However, the food was underwhelming. I ordered tobiko over rice (caviar-style fish roe), and it was served extremely cold — almost like it had just come straight out of the fridge. The texture felt more like crunchy ice chips than fresh tobiko, which was disappointing. Overall, the quality felt comparable to grocery store sushi, and honestly, I’ve had better from places like Whole Foods.
Service was also lacking. When I asked about the sake sizes, I was told “large or small,” and when I asked for clarification on the size, the response was simply “it looks like this,” rather than giving an actual measurement or description. It didn’t feel very attentive or well-trained. There were also noticeable distractions — dishes being dropped and a fair amount of noise while guests were waiting for items from the conveyor belt.
It does seem like a neighborhood spot with regulars who enjoy coming here, so maybe I caught them on an off day. But based on my experience, it didn’t live up to the nearly perfect rating. For me, it was closer to a 2.5–3 star experience.

It’s not friend chicken but grilled. Wings pieces were the smallest I have ever seen. Sauces were good but the taste is so -so, a bit smelly. The chicken strips were big and good bit salty. There is plenty of parking close to the store, in my opinion wingstop is much better in taste and value for money. Probably won’t repeat.

So their sign outside says All sushi & rolls $3.50 during Happy Hour. I’m here at 445pm middle of Happy Hour. Yeah no fine print on the sign but it’s a complicated mess. There was hardly anything on the belt so they bring out a menu and say you can order anything here and it will be the happy hour price. There are signs on the belt that say ask server so you can order those fresh. I order a asparagus roll and take an octopus sushi off the belt, but that’s on the wrong color plate because yeah all the salads on the belt are not happy hour price a lesson that I learned on a previous visit so we cleared up the octopus after a bit of a tussle but they wanted to charge 8 bucks for this tiny asparagus roll that was mostly crunch and when I objected the manager said well it’s an 8 piece rolls and none of the rolls on this side of the menu are happy hour. He’d cut me a break though and only charge $7 because it’s considered a double roll. Only happy hour on belt items??? I said and pointed to the sign outside that clearly says ALL SUSHI AND ROLLS are $3.50. He asked me did I want him to pay for my whole meal? Huh? No I wanted the asparagus roll for $3.50. At this point you’re just going to throw it away. He said nope it was $7. Then threw it out in front of us. Confusing and dishonest happy hour and really bad customer service. Have been going here pretty frequently but won’t be returning. Very disappointing and not what one would expect as far as a company caring about their customers. Fix the signs or honor them.

We were greeted with great hospitality and management did an outstanding job taking care of issues with our order. The sushi and desserts are delicious and all staff provides an individualized and personalized touch for all customers. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. We have celebrated my son’s birthday here. Whether celebrating or going for casual dining, we have really enjoyed this restaurant.

We often come here for the fresh sushi, my favorites are the fried squid legs and the salmon collar. The service is excellent with Kimmi the manager and his team. Gabriel was our server today, this is our go to place for affordable sushi rolls (sizzling salmon; seared salmon) is a must try!

Nice place, relatively good prices compared to other places. The highest priced plate here is just 4, but at most other places the highest plate usually costs 5. But we actually came during happy hour so all the plates were priced lower which was great. Please ask them for those details~ The servers there are all really nice and welcoming too. For the price I think the sushi is good but not the best I’ve tasted. I’d definitely come back though!

Pretty cool experience. Great food and a great gimmick with a conveyor belt for sushi. Surprisingly everything was fresh and tasty and the service was spot on. If we are ever in this area again, we definitely will come back here.
The marinated salmon is to die for.

I don’t eat sushi but my coworkers do. They love the sushi here. I ordered off the menu and I have been pleased with my orders. The place always has a good amount of patrons. The service is always good.

But I genuinely had a horrific experience in food. Be it the quantity or quality, both failed miserably!
I ordered a ramen which was customised with alot many veggies but received just bland udon(As shown in the picture).
Then the broth was just a spoonful, idk if the image does the justice to it or not but it was something I just had in 3-4 sips.
Not really satisfied with their quality, would not recommend!
