Ye Olde Tavern

Social Profile:

From the moment you arrive, it feels as if you have stepped backwards into 18th Century New England. Our colonial era Tavern catered to the Vermont Green Mountain Boys and the politically influential folk before, during, and after Vermont became a state. The Tavern was where the elite met to drink, eat and sleep. The atmosphere at Ye Olde Tavern is one of simple elegance as befitting statesmen and the gentry who often dined and socialized here. Reservations are always suggested.

Quaint, circa-1790 inn serving hearty New England & Continental dishes & classic cocktails.

The best restaurant in Manchester, VT! The candlelit atmosphere is unbeatable and full of history. We had the French onion soup, the maple walnut crusted Brie, and the lobster mac & cheese—all were 10/10. Venison was an interesting adventure for me as well. Even the simple salad served with the entree was perfectly seasoned. Photos can’t capture how cozy and special this place feels. Highly recommend!

Amazing, went for a walk in on February Saturday night for 2 and got seated at the bar. This is such a cozy place to eat and the food is delicious and decently priced. I would highly recommend visiting.

Lobster bisque, pot roast, crab cakes and elk sausages were amazing!!!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. First, the food! The food is spectacularly delicious, so much so that we came back the following night. The pot roast is delicious. I recently went to England and had their “Sunday Roast,” but it was nothing to write home about. The pot roast at Ye Olde Tavern is everything London’s Sunday Roast wishes it could be. New England is definitely better than England. While I’m not a seafood fan, my husband is, and he enjoyed the lobster Mac & cheese. The pork schnitzel is one of the best things I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. The crispy coating, the tangy and sweet honey Dijon mustard, and tender pork are an absolute winner! My husband I both agree that the pork schnitzel is the entree winner. The cornbread fritters with maple butter are wonderful, the fresh bread with butter is delicious, the house salad with blue cheese is one of the best! For dessert we enjoyed the Cranberry Apple Crisp with vanilla ice cream. I’m an apple girl!! And the addition of the tart cranberries is the perfect addition to the sweet apples and ice cream.

Next, the atmosphere. What a treasure! To be in a building from so long ago is beautiful. The rooms are well decorated and the ambiance is cozy, warm, and inviting. It is quiet enough to have a conversation, but not so quiet that you’re afraid you’re making a disturbance by talking. Ye Ole Tavern has taken “Tavern” and given it a modern, slightly upscale touch without it feeling stuffy.

Finally, the service. Yes, we came back because of the food, but we stayed because of the service. Our server, Kiara, is an absolute gem of a human. She not only made sure we had everything we needed, but made suggestions, and had the most infectious personality. We requested her section the second night we came and she was every bit as attentive as the first.

If you are in or near Manchester, stop by Ye Old Tavern and have a wonderful meal in a beautiful building. You won’t be disappointed.

The food was very good, particularly the cheddar and ale onion soup and the cranberry fritters. The crab cake wasn’t anything special, but the salmon and the chicken pot pie were pretty good. The decoration and ambience were amazing.

A MUST EAT in Manchester

Vibe was immaculate and food was great. Service was pretty iffy though.

First, they brought out the wrong drink order, then we overheard them bring the wrong food to another table. Finally they brought our food to another table, the guests CUT IT UP AND TOOK A BITE, then the server took it from them and brought it to us. Pretty thoughtless thing to do

My husband and I Married 9 years ago this April and had our Wedding Dinner here and we just returned for Valentine’s Day last night. ❤️
We had a wonderful experience, the food is absolutely delicious and our waitress Laurie was amazing. She was the same waitress we had 9 years ago! And We were delighted to see her smiling face again.

The building is so interesting a with a lot of VT history, we had the best time and one of the greatest Dining experiences.
We felt like the only people there when it was actually very busy.

My husband had Prime Rib and I had Salmon, we enjoyed everything. 🙂
Thank you!

We had a spectacular dinner at Ye Olde Tavern, and honestly, it’s more than just a meal, it’s an experience. Every entree comes with incredible starters: warm bread, fritters with maple butter, and a fresh salad to set the tone. I had the venison, which was unbelievably tender for such a gamey cut, while my girlfriend went with the NY strip; perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We finished with s’mores ice cream (her favorite), which was the perfect ending. A true Vermont gem and a must-visit.

Simply fantastic food. The waiter Jamie was friendly, funny and informative. He made the dinner experiental. We each tried a fiah dinner prepared in different fashions. Both were very good. The maple butter and cranberry fritters were out of this world. The atmosphere was quaint, clearly frequented by local business owners.

Came here 20 years ago for our 1 year dating anniversary and came back for our 11 year marriage anniversary. It was everything we remembered and looked forward to – if not more. The venison was out of this world. I got it medium well and it w still tender, juicy, and flavorful. Husband got it the recommended medium rare and I think both of ours were equally tasty. Our server Kiara (?) was excellent.

Good and drinks were excellent. We sat in the outdoor dining area with a reservation. It appeared that the server seemed overworked because all of the tables were booked. It was cute vibes and nice ambiance.
