The rating made me nervous at first but digging deeper it seemed the main issues were time and price so we took a shot and were glad we did. The buns were actually delicious and were made well and seemed fresh. And listen, it wasn’t the quickest thing being served but it’s also bao buns in a hut on the water so it wasn’t hard to find things to do while we waited and they people were very nice so I would suggest it for sure!

This little street vendor offers asian fusion street food. It’s takeout only. One orders from a computer at the front and then you wait for pickup. We tried the sushi, the bao, and the dumplings. The sushi was a miss, it had been drowned in sauce and it tasted as if it had been there a while – Teeter and Safeway were better. The dumplings were good – but it’s 10+$ for 4 dumplings, so it can get rather expensive rather quickly if you are really hungry. The bao buns were outstanding. We did the bbq pork and the shrimp tempura. The bbq pork was pretty spicy – too much for the wife – but she gave me the pork and then ate the bao bun; it was just that good. Overall, fairly expensive but good finger food – nice atmosphere and plenty of places to eat this on the wharf that provide great views.

OMG what a surprise. We were cold and cycling during DC holiday night ride. Found this. The food was fabulous! Why did I only grab a little bite. Should have made a dinner out of it. The Chicken Steam Roll made my eyes roll back.

This stand used to be great, but it seems to be winding down. Last week, they didn’t have food available until after 1pm, and then they only had one item from the menu. The dumplings were mushy and came with a packet of soy sauce only – no dipping sauce. A joke for $10. Avoid.

Yatai, appropriately named after the Japanese word for “food cart,” offers a takeout-only, street-food-style experience. I was pleasantly surprised by the shrimp tempura bao buns, which were tasty, though the dumplings were just okay. The sushi was disappointing, overly drenched in sauce, and some items tasted as if they’d been sitting out for a while. The food came out quickly, which was convenient, but it seemed this was due to much of it being pre-prepared, affecting the freshness.
Initially, I didn’t mind the prices, as they’re on par with others in the area, but for food that isn’t always fresh and with self-service ordering the cost feels steep. The quality is hit-or-miss, and although they claim to be open during concerts, the hours aren’t always consistent. While it’s a convenient spot to grab a bite on the way home from a show, I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

As many had put on the comment, the food is generally good and tasty but the price is much more expensive for what you get. The portion is tiny.

I’m still dreaming about the shrimp tempura buns. The absolute best I’ve ever had. The portion size was decent, too. The shrimp dumplings weren’t great – I couldn’t really taste the shrimp. But I’ll go back again and again for the shrimp tempura!

Ordered the salmon rolls, but found them to have very little flavor. Ordered through the app, but the server handed them over 30 seconds later, since everything had already been prepared. Prompted, of course, to leave a tip on top of the $13 price, even though the server had a frown and clearly did not have any enthusiasm for his job. Still hungry over $17 later…
