I got a chicken and lamb mix plate. It was blander than a cardboard sitting in the sun for 5 weeks. Also they use a lot of salt. Your blood pressure will surely be needed to be monitored after eating here.
Also meat tasted old, they served it out of a container. I mean if I go to a food truck / trailer I expect it to be fresh off the grill. Even the rice had 0 flavor.
$18 down the drain. Shouldn’t have to pay such exorbitant prices for such a part of the city where one has to dodge bullets. Go elsewhere, it’s most likely safer.
The yellow rice was not cooked well. It was grainy and the chicken didn’t taste that good. It was not flavourful. I have had many chicken over rice plates from other places, but never had such a mild, plain chicken plate with grainy undercooked rice. Extra sauces didn’t help in adding taste to it too.
Falafels on sides were good and Pita bread was nice.
I just hope they improvise the taste by adding good spices to it. I just didn’t enjoy my dinner.
I wonder how they have 4 star rating. May be it was not my day or else. .
Egyptian grill food truck parked in front of what looked like a half-empty apartment complex. Kind of a strange setup, but my friend and I were curious and figured we’d check it out late Sunday afternoon. No wait, food came out in about 10 minutes. Quick and easy.
We wanted to try everything, so we grabbed two mixed plates—one with lamb and kofta, the other with chicken and shrimp. Each plate came with rice, a small salad, and a heavy drizzle of white sauce over everything. A bit pricey at just over $20 per plate (especially for a food truck), but the protein portions were no joke. We actually ran out of rice before we ran out of meat.
Our favorites were the lamb and shrimp. The lamb was tender and well-seasoned, and the shrimp had a nice char and snap. Kofta was a bit dry, and the chicken felt under-seasoned on its own (definitely needed the sauce).
The white sauce was the MVP here: creamy, garlicky, tangy—basically a slightly brighter version of what Halal Guys uses. Red sauce was not playing around. Got it on the side per the guy’s warning, and it was hot as the one at HG’s.
Not necessarily a place worth an extra trip, but if you’re craving something hearty, protein-packed, and satisfying, this might be a solid move.
Really only takeout only. Maybe they could add benches and picnic tables once it warms up.
EDIT 11/18: yeah downgrading to a 1 star. Today, my wife went to pick up some cream cheese from a bagel shop across the street and was going to come back to get falafel before heading home. She comes back to see her car on a tow truck because someone at Yassa had complained that she parked where she shouldn’t be. She was gone for less than 10 minutes and was going to buy falafel before heading home. This isn’t how you treat your customers and people who have been coming to you for years. So of course, she didn’t end up buying anything today after that. They have gone down the drain in all areas, clearly.
