I have been going to Yao’s since forever with my family so much we are friends with the owners. The staff especially nice and polite and are more than ready to serve you. Now to the tasty part, the food is fantastic. My favorite food is their Chow Fun. It is the best! I have tried most of the items on the menu and all are fantastic. The place is clean with soothing Chinese Music and a nice peaceful theme. I definitely recommend this place.

Best Chinese food in the area. I eat there at least 3 times a month. The owner Maria is very friendly and Ping is the best server in the place. The Manhattans style soups are very large but very good.

Well, sad to say but Yaos was forced to move out of its Skillman ,NJ location. They will be opening a new location in Metuchen named Pink Lotus. Should still be worth the ride, just no longer a local gem 🙁

Love their dishes. Steamed veggie dumplings, light on the dough, carefully prepared, filled full with leafy greens. We love their General Tso’s Tofu prepared mild, especially for the kids. They are very reasonable with customizing orders.

Good food, outstanding service. The other day, my waiter heard me say the food wasn’t spicy enough, and brought out some hot sauce without me even having to ask.
Edit: reducing from 5 to a 4. I still think the service is outstanding, I just don’t think the food warrants a 5 star rating. Most of it is extremely sugary. I’ve been here over twenty times in the last year just because it is close to where I work and is pretty cheap. Would still recommend it to people, but I really wish they would tone down the sugar as I get kind of sick after I eat there sometimes (not to mention sugar crash!).

Good food. Wasn’t expecting this seemingly ordinary restaurant to be so good. Was busy when I went with a party of 6 around noon but we got sat right away. Service was what you would expect for a lunch rush. Food was very good (Tofu homestyle) the other parties food looked great as well. Reasonably priced, I will absolutely go back.

Never weird meat, even reheats the next day well. Not greasy. Best hot & sour soup. very good prices, especially for the area. Don’t buy the pad thai, they even almost warned us not to buy the thai food there (as much as a server can say anything…) But the orange chicken, singapore noodles, lo mein, beef & broccoli, etc have been consistently good.

***NOTICE*** I was told by the people working that night that they were closing after the new year…. mid-January!
A shame because Yaos was the best Chinese restaurant for 25 miles around.
Sad to see them go. I think they said they were moving the place to Metuchen.
I wish the best of luck with their new place.

I work around the corner but very rarely order food for lunch. I have tried other Chinese food in the area and decided to try Yao’s. Easily the best Chinese food I have had in this area. Not overly greasy/salty and very tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Love this place. Food is absolutely delicious (stick to Chinese dishes). Excellent service. Best part, portions are big enough for next day meal.

Five Flavor Chicken was good. Fried Rice was on point. Nothing greasy on the plate. Didn’t make me feel crappy after eating it. Just the right portion size too.
