Founded by Yanni Arvanitopoulos and inspired by his mother’s recipes, this family-owned spot brings the true soul of Greece to New Jersey. Every dish is made from scratch using the freshest ingredients, many imported directly from Greece. This is Greek hospitality the way it’s meant to be—where food, family, and tradition come together around one table.
Standout dishes we loved:
• Village Bread: Grilled village bread topped with feta mousse, warm olives, and roasted cherry tomatoes.
• Shrimp Ouzo: Shrimp sautéed with onion, garlic, ouzo, and parsley in a rich butter sauce.
• Saganaki Bites: Lightly fried kefalograviera cheese drizzled with honey and finished with pomegranate seeds.
• Moussaka Croquettes: Crispy fried bites filled with zucchini, eggplant, potatoes, ground beef, and béchamel.
• Spanakopita: Homemade spinach pie with leeks, scallions, dill, and feta.

I have nothing but great things to say about Yanni’s. My family and I went on opening night and loved it so much that we returned just a week later. The spanakopita is absolutely to die for and a must-try. Every dish we ordered exceeded expectations and was full of fresh, authentic flavor.

My wife and I had a perfect Valentines dinner here. We eat out once a week religiously and this is our new favorite restaurant!! The food is next level. The octopus appetizer was unlike any we have ever had in the best way possible. I had the lamb chops which were perfectly cooked to my liking. My wife’s shellfish bowl was spectacular. The bread…my God, the bread which the owner explained was made in house, was perfect for dipping into the broth at the bottom of the bowl.
Every detail has been meticulously prepared from the food to the warm and romantic setting. It’s those little details that distances this place from the rest of the many options here in Caldwell. The dessert that was recommended was a a coconut mouse that was unique and delicious. The owner was as gracious as a diner could ask for. It felt like I knew him my whole life. Yanni’s has a familiar family feel but with an elegant flair. They’ve transcended the West Essex dining scene in a short time. Run…don’t sleep on this place. It’s that good.

My family and I had a wonderful dining experience at Yanni’s Taverna. From the moment we walked in, the warm greeting from the host made us feel right at home. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and guided us through the menu, highlighting their signature dishes.
We decided to try some appetizers based on her recommendations, and we were thoroughly impressed. The menu features unique items exclusive to Yanni’s, and everything we tasted was exceptional. The moussaka croquettes offered a creative twist on a classic Greek dish, and they were simply amazing.
For my main course, I ordered the bronzino, which turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever had. Dessert was the highlight for the entire family; even though we were stuffed, we couldn’t resist indulging in more.
I highly recommend Yanni’s Taverna, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

We celebrated a birthday with 15 guests, most of them were Greek, and know what great Greek food is!! I will happily report this place has the best Greek food we have ever eaten on the entire east coast including NYC and was commiserate with the places we have been to in Greece! Yianni, his lovely wife and our gracious waitress could not be more welcoming and warm.The place is decorated so beautifully and is very clean! Food was absolutely incredible! Selection is amazing and the prices are so fair unlike a lot of other places in the area!! We will definitely be back! It’s BYOB as an FYI.
