Great food overall! We ordered a little bit of everything and most of it really hit the spot. The chicken katsu curry was divine and the spicy tuna rice crispy was even better. The kaarage fried chicken was delicious and perfectly cooked. Yki fries were pretty addicting. The blistered shishito peppers were nice and simple. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the veggie sando. Service was great so it’s definitely worth a visit.

My third time back and Yanaga, and it didn’t disappoint! I love the mini tasting they offer – such a great deal since I can’t always spring for the full omakase. The sushi is fresh and delicious, the cocktails are creative and complex, and the happy hour deals are so worth it! I tried the wagyu hot dog for the first time and even though I came there for the raw fish, that was a standout menu item for me.
The ambiance is laid back and fun, never pretentious. The waitresses and friendly and knowledgeable and never made me feel rushed.
I already can’t wait to be back!

Yanaga Kappo-Izakaya has a cool, kitschy vibe with anime, wall art, and neon decor. The sushi is creative (Northern Libs Trio) but also offers standard cut hand rolls as well. A good selection of drinks (sake juice box!) and mocktails. The soft serve green tea ice cream was a nice ending to our meal. Next time, we’ll try the omakase. A unique choice for Japanese food if you’re in Philly.

My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new in the Northern Liberty area as we frequent the area quite a bit, and decided to give Yanaga a try. After just one dine in experience, it’s become one of our new favorite spots to eat, and it’s definitely on the restaurant rotation for when we go out to eat!

The place is very decked out with anime stickers, manga panels, and the like, while also playing different kinds of anime on the TVs they have on premise. I really recommend the spot, for just the food alone even if you don’t like anime.

The vibes in here were incredible with cool lighting and anime on the TVs. Staff were all super nice and the food came out quickly. I came with a group of 4 and we ordered the chicken yakisoba, tuna tartare, eel roll, 1/2 chicken special (not pictured) maki special (not pictured) and YKI fries (not pictured). The maki special and eel roll were delicious, but the eel roll really didn’t have that much eel in it. The flavors in the chicken yakisoba were incredible — the dish was just a touch oily. Tuna tartare was nothing special and the 1/2 chicken special was too sour — it sort of tasted like Tabasco sauce. Overall the portions were a little small for the price. 3/4 of us left hungry. It might not be a great place to try family style tbh. I’d recommend the yakisoba and the rolls for individual ordering

Having lived in northern liberties the past year and a half, this is our go-to spot. The sushi is top notch, their chicken ramen out of this world, and the mixed drinks are unique and delicious.

The happy hour menu is also great (and every day until 6pm). A wonderful place in the heart of NoLibs!

We’ve been multiple times for omakase, the regular dining room, and takeout and have never been anything less than delighted. The food is fresh, imaginative, and absolutely delicious – from sushi to larger entrees. Cocktails and sake selection are also 10/10. Such a great addition to the NoLibs restaurant scene!

LOVED dining here! Casual spot with great service. We made a reservation and were glad we did as almost every table was full.
The cocktail list has some interesting drinks on it and we enjoyed what the server recommended. We had four dishes and were full by the time we left. We started with the shishito peppers and gyoza and the portions were good and gyoza was some of the best I’ve ever had. Ponzu butter roll was very large and simple but great as well. We ended with the hibachi rice and it was a good portion for two people to split plus tasty as it’s made with duck fat!
Will definitely be back here again and hear they have a great happy hour!

We came here just in time for happy hour, and within seconds one of my buddies spilled water on another, but the waitress immediately helped clean it up, which was much appreciated. I ordered the wagyu dog, which was full of flavor, the spicy tuna roll, and crab spring rolls, both of which were tasty. One of my buddies got the spicy kara-age, and it was so good we ended up ordering three more. The classic highball was also solid. On top of all that, they play various anime on the TVs, which is what originally drew us in. This was easily my favorite spot to eat in Philly this weekend. Thank you to the staff for the great service and delicious food. I’ll definitely be back next time I visit Philly!
