One of my favorite restaurants in town. They never fail to impress me with their appetizers and sushi rolls, the bento boxes are phenomenal too.

My husband and I have been twice since the opening and the food is so good, it’s what our little town needed. We went on on Tuesday evening to dine in and it was super busy. Seated right away but took a little while to get our food….but completely understandable with how packed the restaurant was. We also did take out and the portions we enough to have left over the next day. We will definitely be back

Although Yamato Steak House of Japan couldn’t replace our first choice for Japanese food, it’s worth a visit if you’re craving hibachi. The menu offers a good variety, and the hibachi dishes are flavorful with generous portions. The overall dining experience was enjoyable, but a few but easy to correct issues stood out.
The clear soup (or “onion soup”) was overwhelmingly salty—like being hit by an ocean wave—and was a disappointing start to the meal. Traditionally, this soup is a light and flavorful broth designed to awaken the palate without overwhelming it. It should strike a balance between savory umami flavors and subtle seasoning, with just a hint of richness from ingredients like onions, garlic, and ginger. Additionally, the service was lacking; we only saw our waiter once during the entire visit. It was explained that staffing was short, with just one waiter covering the whole restaurant, which was understandable but still left drinks unfilled and made it difficult to ask for sauces or assistance.
That said, the ambiance was excellent. As a new restaurant, Yamato boasts a fresh and inviting atmosphere, which added to the dining experience and made it feel welcoming.
While it may not be our top choice, Yamato Steak House of Japan is a decent option. With a little more attention to service and consistency, it has the potential to become a favorite spot in the area.
In time we will return as this is a new restaurant to the Richlands, Va area. Where an updated review will be made.

I wanted to give this place a second chance. The first time was not so good. I did write a review but deleted it. Second time, I had the hibachi steak shrimp. The flavor was okay the shrimp was kinda chewy. Rice was pretty bland, and veggies were good but portion wise not much. It wasn’t bad but for a new restaurant I thought it could be better.

Walk into a different world when entering this restaurant! The service was excellent! Peyton is who you ask for when dining in… she didn’t miss a beat!! Tried the Gyoza fried dumplings, which were tasty. The Hibachi tofu was delicious. See pic. We also had Chicken Tonkatzu with sauce on the side- could use a bit more flavor. This dish came with a strong, bold flavored soup and (what I thought) was a great salad. Maybe a bit busy tonight; will be back to try the sushi

Decided to order out from Yamato in Richlands VA for the second time in my life after trying their sushi last order I figured my wife and I could try their hibachi this time, what a mistake. Arriving at the restaurant I was kindly greeted by an employee and directed to the small counter in the corner covered in chained pens and hello kitty branded ink pen displays,we exchanged a hello and I got our food after explaining my order for them a second time and paying what felt like a kings ransom now I eagerly took it home to have dinner with my wife instead of sitting in a restaurant next to a smoke and Vapor sales store servicing what richlands calls the “coal yard” shopping center. The food was okay for japanese out of a Styrofoam container the rice was stuck into a single uniform lump and our meat and vegetables sat on top in display. The sauces that the meats are cooked in taste very good however the rest of the meal comes up bland and saddening, the complimentary wet salad was discarded and the teriyaki meat sticks came drowned in a quarter of the box full of teriyaki sauce. To wrap the whole disheartening experience up my wife and I both woke up this morning sick and vomiting rice that smelled like old cooked eggs, I decided to call the restaurant to see if anyone else had called them and reported food poisoning yet but was met with what felt like unjust hostility like I was trying to scam them out of the money I paid them last night, I was literally told “Bring me a doctor’s note from the hospital.”. I’m not interested in the money back, I consider it the price paid for the information gained. I will steer clear from this overpriced charade of a restaurant at all costs from now on. I lodged a complaint with the tazwell county health department, who hopefully will at least take a peek behind the curtains for the health of Richlands. Best of luck ye who enter.
