Yamato grill – Reviews, Photos & Phone Number – Updated March …
Reviews
We began with edamame (7/10) (could be grilled to have more flavours) and chicken karaage with yuzu mayonnaise (8/10)— crisp, tender, well-seasoned, balanced by the citrus lift of yuzu. The Yamato roast beef with yuzu and spices (5/10) was less convincing; technically sound but served cold, which may surprise those unfamiliar with this style.
The meal truly revealed its strength with the beef selection. The Wagyu tataki (10/10) was exceptional — delicately seared, buttery, with a clean finish that allowed the marbling to speak for itself. The miso-marinated ribeye (10/10), cut into grill-ready pieces, delivered depth and umami without overwhelming the natural character of the meat. The highlight remained the 150g sliced Wagyu ribeye (10/10), likely A4 given the visible marbling: tender, melting, luxuriously textured yet balanced. As expected from Wagyu, the flavor is subtle rather than bold; here, it was intelligently supported by accompaniments — marinated cabbage and carrots, pickled cucumber, sesame oil, and a particularly well-executed barbecue sauce. Rice is served automatically, and we added nori sheets, which brought salinity and structure, allowing for composed bites reminiscent of refined yakiniku rituals.
The miso soup (7/10) was comforting and clean. Mochi ice cream with lychee (10/10) closed the meal on a fragrant, perfectly textured note, while the vanilla ice cream (8/10) was simple and satisfying.
A special mention must go to the Mojito (10/10). It is remarkable how rarely this seemingly simple cocktail is executed correctly; too often diluted or unbalanced. Here, the proportions were exact — fresh mint, vibrant lime, controlled sweetness. A benchmark version. The Cosmopolitan (6/10) was pleasant though less memorable. Jasmine and genmaicha teas (both 10/10) were of excellent quality and brewed with care.
The atmosphere is modern yet warm, encouraging conviviality without sacrificing comfort. Pricing remains coherent with the quality of sourcing and execution. This is not merely a place to eat Wagyu; it is a place that understands how to present it — respectfully, precisely, and accessibly. A restaurant that treats its product seriously while keeping the experience welcoming.
The staff was smiling, welcoming and attentive. And they eagerly came to help us whenever needed.
Only tiny minus (hence the 4 stars instead of 5 on the rating for service): I wished they had told us that the order came with vegetables side (including cucumbers) and I would not have ordered a whole bowl of cucumber salad as well. Indeed, bbq order does come with a side of rice, 3 small side of vegetables and some dipping sauces.
The sukiyaki was delicious and my partner loved the “Hiyashi Chuka” cold noodles. The quality of the meat is just like in Japan.
Would love to come back for the yakiniku in the evening.
The service was appalling and responded in a very rude way to the situation and were dishonest on the malfunction – they have actually nothiingJapanese except the name this is just a modernised concept of the old fake parisian “Japanese” restaurant. Having dysfunctional grills is one thing but seating clients at them and chargimg for a slow cooked meat reflects the greed and dishonesty of the owners
Now reacting to your: below response which also dishonest as my review is completely accurate.
1/ the waitress rexognised that the grill dis not work properly but misled us to thiink that the grill while dysfunctional needed more time to heat up and would be working ok at the end. She started cooking the meat which went very slowly
2/ we mentioned several times that the meat was cooking too slowly and that the meat was slow cooked but they did not propose to move us or take away the meat.
3/ we realised at the end that the grill was completely dysfunctional by watching the next table grilll at the end of our dinner which was cooking well with an obvious difference
4/ at this stage we asked for a gesture given the grilll dysfunction and the slow cooking that the meat only would be taken off the bill ie 25 euros out of 111 euros total. I was refused to speak to the manager as i requested it and the staff obviously did not reacti professionally
5/ As your waitress was raising her voice in a very rude way refusing to take this off the bill came to the till to offer to pay the bill again without the meat but were forced by your staff to pay under duress snd the threat to call the police indeed which os outraging while the male waiter became physically threatening
Any decent restaurant would have offered a commercial gesture given the dysfunction and the bad experience and then apologised. There is no Japanese cook or waiter in your restaurant and certainly a Japanese owner would have reacted respectfully in the circumstances
My review is not defamatory and i did not leave such reviews before. Your grill was not functioning properly and you know it. It was my birthday which you ruined and your staff shocked my fiancee, there are clearly not trained and do not speak appropriately to clients. They have reacted like a street gang reflecting a very bad culture which you seem to encourage with your response in bad faith
You should offer to refund me and get your facts better.
