Fun Hibachi on the Water but Go Somewhere Else for Sushi

Yamato at Broadway at the Beach immediately drew us in with its lively entrance, fun décor, and great location on the water. From the moment we walked in, the hostesses were helpful in explaining the dining options and quickly sat us without a reservation. The views overlooking the boats and shops added a nice touch, and I appreciated how spacious and well laid out the dining room felt. Even the baby high chair was impressively clean, something I rarely ever see.

The atmosphere was the highlight, but the food left me a little underwhelmed aside from the delicious starting soup, heavy on the onion but possibly my favorite dish. Surprisingly, I had to add salt to my hibachi, which is not what I expected. The fried rice and vegetables were cooked so quickly they lost their depth of flavor.. soggy veggies and bland rice meant I was relying on yum yum sauce to save the dish. On the bright side, the spicy salad dressing was excellent. The server also forgot my wife’s shrimp so he had to cook more. It looked a little on the light side as well.

The biggest disappointment was the sushi. It lacked flavor and fell apart as soon as I picked it up with chopsticks, as if it had been rushed together. That took away from the experience more than anything else. At least the meal ended on a refreshing note with a scoop of sherbet, and the staff throughout were friendly, attentive, and truly made an effort to give great service.

Overall, Yamato is worth it if you’re after the hibachi experience and a fun setting on the water. Just skip the sushi. I won’t be back but give it a try!

I had reserved seats for 6:30. My friend was running late but the hostess was wonderful and since they were not overly busy she was able to hold our reservations.

Our waiter was quick and efficient. Our chief was very skilled and the show was wonderful. He made jokes and kept us laughing.

Honestly, the only thing I would change is the speed. I felt kinda rushed to order and eat. Maybe give us 10 minutes to sip on the soup and maybe another ten to eat the salad. But the food was wonderful and Even when i warmed up my leftovers, they were delicious.

Definitely recommend this place and will be returning.

Was super good we made reservations just in case it was a long wait and was able to get seated right away. Food was amazing great portion sizes. My son had the kids chicken looking at his size plate you would think it was the adult size. So he definitely finished the rest for lunch the next day.

We are in the sushi bar area, too long of wait for table, it was loud and the “birthday” gong went off every 10 minutes and it became obnoxious. Food portion was HUGE. Could share 1 plate easily. Service was great!! Very attentive and friendly! Broccoli was perfection!

Reasonably priced for being hibachi and its location in Broadway at the Beach. Traditional “show” with volcano onion, egg spinning, catching food, etc. no saki shooter though. Be prepared to wait if you don’t have a reservation but worth the wait. Everything tasted fresh.

I’ve never heard of this place til we were looking on the map for Hibachi places and I’ve gotta say this is the best experience I’ve had at any “cook in front of you” restaurant. Our chef wasn’t annoying, like most I’d been to, and was very immersive with the guests!
And the people we were sat with were super entertaining and enthusiastic about the experience as well!

For birthdays, they ring a small gong and have the restaurant sing Happy Birthday! And unlike other restaurants, the staff seemed very happy to sing the song! And were entertained by the guests as well.

The food was pretty good as well, not to DIE for but very well prepared. All ingredients tasted fresh, including the vegetables which tasted and looked freshly cut.
You are given a free appetizer shrimp, soup, salad, and at the end a dessert! It is also not bank account sweating expensive.

If you’re in Myrtle beach and looking for hibachi, I say this is the spot to go!
Happy summer!!

Great overall experience! Felt VIP since we went in later and almost had place to ourselves. Very quick service, great cooks and wait staff. Most meals are around $30. Sushi options under $20. Meals come w/ appetizer shrimp, salad or soup, and sherbet for dessert. Chicken, steak and shrimp all good choices. The entertainment was just as good as the food and portions were flowing over our plate. Would definately recommend this spot if looking for great atmosphere over the water to have that special moment with friends, family or employees. Gratuity is included for larger parties over 6 people.

Visited YAMATO with my family for the hibachi experience, which the kids really enjoyed. The restaurant is consistently busy due to its tourist location rather than exceptional food quality, so I’d definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time – otherwise expect a wait.

The food was fresh and well-prepared, but nothing particularly stood out as memorable. The hibachi show was entertaining for the children, which was our main goal for the visit. Service was adequate given how busy they were.

Overall, it’s a decent option if you’re looking for a family-friendly hibachi experience in the area, just manage your expectations on the food and plan ahead with reservations.

We went for hibachi. The dining area over looks the lake. The chefs are very entertaining. Chicken “meow”… You get a 5 course meal (soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, main meal, and sherbert desert. It was very delicious, full of flavor, and more food then most people should eat (leftovers for the next day). I would recommend this place to anyone. I would also recommend you schedule reservations.
