Reviews
Visited this place while in Edinburgh and overall it was a decent experience, though not something I would call exceptional.
The restaurant serves North Indian–style food, and while it is not a pure vegetarian restaurant, there are several vegetarian options available on the menu. This is helpful for vegetarians, but if you are specifically looking for a 100% veg place, this may not fully meet that expectation.
Coming to the food quality — the food was okay, not bad, not outstanding. The flavours were fairly mild, and if you enjoy authentic Indian spice levels, you will likely need to specifically ask them to make the food spicy. Without that request, the taste feels slightly adjusted for a broader audience. The dishes had a familiar North Indian touch, but there wasn’t any particular item that stood out as “special” or memorable.
Portion sizes were reasonable, and presentation was neat. The food felt freshly prepared, but again, in terms of taste, it was more on the safe and average side rather than bold or exciting.
The ambience is pleasant and comfortable, suitable for casual dining with family or friends. The place was lively and well-maintained. Service was polite and cooperative, and the staff was responsive when asked about menu options or spice levels.
Overall, I would rate the experience around 75 out of 100.
It’s a good option if you are craving Indian food, especially North Indian flavours, but don’t go in expecting something extraordinary. With slightly stronger spices and more authentic flavours, the experience could be much better.
Good for:
✔ Casual Indian meals
✔ North Indian cuisine lovers
✔ Vegetarian-friendly (not pure veg)
Can improve:
Spice levels by default
More distinctive, authentic flavours
A decent stop for Indian food in Edinburgh, but there’s room to elevate the taste and overall experience.
The value for money is excellent. We ordered several starters to share, two types of main courses, and a cheese bread that was spectacular. Without a doubt, the best part is the service: the staff are super friendly, they explain every dish in detail, and they advise you on what to order based on your tastes so you don’t over-order or miss out. We will definitely be back!
I ordered the paneer tikka to start, and it was excellent well marinated with a great grilled flavour. For my main course, I had the chicken biryani with raita. The chicken pieces were soft and juicy, and although the biryani was a bit mild for my taste, it was still tasty and satisfying.
Despite the short wait at the start, the quality of the food made the visit worthwhile. Not the forget the ambience which was chic. I’d definitely consider returning.
There’s also a lift from the downstairs bar to the restaurant upstairs, which is helpful for infirm or disabled diners. It’s clearly a popular restaurant that has stood the test of time.
I opted for onion bhajis for starters. Two slightly overcooked bhajis arrived with a spicy tomato dip and a token side salad. They were tasty enough, but unremarkable.
I chose the king prawn chattinad (£17.95) for main dish, described as king prawns cooked with coconut, black pepper, fresh curry leaves, mustard touch of onion and tomato with garlic. The prawns were delicious and plentiful, although I was expecting something with more taste and flavour than just a general korma dish. I enjoyed it, but in hindsight I simply chose the wrong dish.
I shared a pilau rice with another friend, which was ample for both dishes.
A couple of friends either side of me ordered the chicken tikka karahi and chicken bhuna, which were delicious and on-point. The karahi was nicely spiced and full of flavour, while the bhuna had a proper kick. I was going to order the bhuna originally and I would order either dish if I were to visit again. Another diner chose the lamb shank (£19.95), which she said was absolutely delicious and it certainly looked it.
We were warmly greeted and seated near the rear of the restaurant. Unfortunately, we had to ask for the air-conditioning to be turned off and a door closed due to draughts, and the issue wasn’t really resolved for those affected. Cold and lukewarm plates seems to be a common theme as well, reading other reviews.
Service felt a bit chaotic throughout. We waited for what seemed like ages to be given fresh cutlery after our meals had been served.
Staff were friendly throughout and the food was good, but there are better and more reasonably priced curry houses in Edinburgh.
I was also disappointed to find that the pint of Kingfisher I’d bought downstairs while waiting had been added to the restaurant bill as “already on the table,” effectively charging me twice.
If it’s already on the table, why did the waiting staff consider adding it to the bill without checking? I eat out regularly and I’m getting a bit sick of “mistakes” and sleight of hand tricks being made on bills in favour of restaurants.
Would I return? Maybe. The food was good, but the service lapses and billing error dulled what should have been a much better experience.
A special mention to Rahul, who was our server. He was polite, attentive, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. His service truly enhanced the overall experience.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic, tasty vegetarian Indian food in a welcoming atmosphere.
We took Butter Chicken with naan basket, rice and drinks. One of the best butter chicken I ate – has a spice a bit atypical from my experience, but very very good.
The staff was very nice and welcoming and they squeezed us in between reservations – thank you !!
Next time I am in Edinburgh I will definitely eat here again ❤️
We were on a rush and I asked the staff if we could have our food served out quicker, the manager didn’t even reply to my question and immediately tell the kitchen staff to serve our food out as soon as possible.
All in all, great experience at this restaurant.
