My boyfriend and I stopped in for a late lunch at Xecora and lucked out with Happy Hour! We sat at the bar and enjoyed the fun, beautifully decorated space (it was nice and quiet on a weekday afternoon). Every detail was great, especially the food: the tacos gobernador were absolutely fabulous, and the oysters were fresh. Paired with a few delicious sangrias, it made for a wonderful afternoon. We highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

Very disappointing experience.

The music was so loud you literally couldn’t have a conversation with your own table. We tried multiple times to order drinks and were completely ignored by our server and others while they hung out in front of us. I actually had to get up and find someone just to get service.

The food took almost an hour to come out. I ordered the chilaquiles — 4/10 at best. It’s all presentation and no flavor.

Overall, extremely disappointing. Between the slow service, being ignored, and the excessive noise, I would not recommend this place

I really wanted to like this place, but the food really missed the mark. Queso Fondido with Chorizo was maybe a 3/5, the chorizo was burnt and flavorless. The Pasta was a bit cold and had a microwaved taste. Chicken, again was flavorless and dry. Lastly, the Carne Asada had a “spoiled” aftertaste while chewing, and overcooked burnt ouside. I’d expect this level of quality maybe at a nameless establishment on the outskirts of the city, with chairs that don’t match and exposed tv power cables taped loosely along the walls. But not here, right center of Downey sharing space with the likes of Gaucho Grill, Lazy Dog, and The Olive!

The atmosphere was nice, and the service was fine. But the foods quality really bothered us. So much so I had to bite into a chilli pepper to cleanse my mouth. I would not recommend eating here until Xecora has really stepped up their cooking and food quality standards.

Very nice place.
Service was excellent! The food was so delicious. The atmosphere feels amazing.
I enjoyed their window view when sitting indoor, and the nice paintings on the walls.

The food was great, I recommend this place if you like sea food. I def want to come back and try more of their items.

Amazing food and service. Perfect combination!! A little pricey but the food quality and taste makes up for it way more. The birria was the best I’ve ever had, I wish they had a little more onions and consume on the side. The beef was soft, moist and tender. It was really really good. Service was exceptional, our server was really kind and fast with service. Overall amazing experience and food.

We have been regulars at both Xecora locations for a long time, but after our experience this past Saturday (Jan 17th), we won’t be returning. We were seated at the bar and ordered a half dozen oysters. My husband had two and immediately knew they weren’t right. By the time we got home 25 minutes later, he was violently ill with food poisoning that lasted all night.

It was also disappointing that the service was disorganized—our drinks took forever to come out, arriving only after the oysters were already on the table. We really liked this place, but we can’t risk our health on bad seafood. Please be very careful if ordering raw items here.

Came here with my bf for dinner, had the Shrimp tacos!! Did not disappoint! The tacos were so good! Not messy, the taco stayed in tact while taking a bite! Not like others where everything is falling apart while taking a bite! Definitely recommend.

I came for the first time Saturday night to try out there drink menu. I got the tamarind spell and it was a very good flavorful drink. My friends all like their drinks as well. We ordered chips and guacamole also and they were delicious. I can’t wait to come here again and order a drink and try some of their food menu. Very good service !

The food was awful, we ordered al pastor tacos and octopus tacos and they were inedible. The services was slow, it took a very long time to get our drinks and food. Our waiter was busy chit chatting with friends on another table and drinking. The person that drop off our drinks was rude when we inquiry about the drinks she was leaving. As she missname them and we asked if she was dropping the right drinks.

I wonder at first why they had 3.9 rating, now I think people were too generous.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Xecora, a seafood-inspired Mexican food restaurant. The restaurant boasted beautiful Huichol motifs. Which is great because the Huichol culture is definitely to be celebrated. While the service had a few shortcomings, the food itself left a lasting impression.

Let’s start with the service. Although the restaurant was not overly crowded, I did find that it took quite a while to receive our drinks and food. Additionally, when we wanted to reorder drinks, it took longer than anticipated to get the attention of the waitstaff. This aspect of the dining experience could definitely use improvement. Furthermore, considering the price, the drinks could have been stronger and more flavorful.

Now, onto the highlight of the evening—the food. We decided to sample a variety of dishes, including the Xecora Rice, Zarandeado Fish, and Carne Asada. The Carne Asada was a delightful rendition of this classic Mexican dish. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, providing a satisfying and authentic experience.

The Xecora Rice, however, left something to be desired. While it had a pleasant taste, the texture was a bit disappointing. The rice and seafood seemed to have melded together, resulting in a slightly mushy consistency. It didn’t quite live up to expectations, and I would likely skip it on my next visit.

The standout dish of the evening was undoubtedly the Zarandeado Fish. This seafood delight was nothing short of outstanding. The fish was grilled perfectly and flavorful. It left a lasting impression on my taste buds, and I can confidently say that I will be ordering it again in the future.
