My coworker talked about Xalo’s all week so of course I had to treat myself.
She recommended the birria tacos, California burrito, and Mexican Caesar salad.
I got the birria tacos on the first trip. Definitely the best birria tacos I’ve ever had. They were the perfect amount of greasy deliciousness. Highly recommend. I got the strawberry horchata because why not. It was different. Happy I tried it but I’m good.
The next trip, I got the California burrito. Honestly it was just okay when I ate it fresh. But when I ate it as leftovers the next day OMG. It was way way better.
I’ll have to return next week to get the Mexican Caesar to see if it stands up to my coworker’s hype.
Lastly, the paintings in the 100th Ave restaurant location are beautiful.

Their Menudo used to be the best in Alaska, now it’s just meh It’s not even red, it’s a gray color. Definitely not appetizing. Their Birria tacos used to be crunchy and I’d be able to pick up the taco, now they’re a soggy mess and you need a fork to eat them. I wanted tacos, not enchiladas. The quality of food has fallen off big time. What happened Xalos? I’ll be back in a few months. Hopefully things have improved

Atmosphere – 5 stars
Xalos has a really cool vibe. The space is super clean, nicely decorated, and well laid out with plenty of tables. Soft Mexican music played in the background, creating a chill and welcoming atmosphere. Easily one of the nicer fast-casual spots we visited in Anchorage.
Service – 4 stars
The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. There was a bit of a language barrier at times, but that’s no complaint—just something on my end. Overall, they made the experience pleasant and smooth.
Food – 4 stars
I got the fajita chicken burrito, and it was huge. Very filling and made with quality ingredients—tender chicken, flavorful rice, beans, and peppers. It came with chips and your choice of salsa. We also tried the chipotle burrito, which was equally impressive. Both were fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care.
Overall – 4 out of 5 stars
Xalos may be a local chain, but it rivals or even beats bigger national brands. We’re from the East Coast and honestly wish we had something like this back home. It’s like Chipotle—but better. This would absolutely be a regular go-to if it were in our area.

One of my favorite spots for a fast but delicious meal. Huge servings! I can eat half of the burrito and feel satisfied and full. Staff are super nice but busy. It’s more spendy but does not disappoint.

An excellent choice for a quick and delicious meal. Convenient location across from Target. The food came out extremely quickly, and we were astounded by the quality of our orders. My friend absolutely loved his quesadilla (and was only able to eat half), and I loved the juicy and rich birria in my burrito. Next time I think I’ll order a quesadilla plate with pico de gallo, guacamole, and some shredded lettuce. I also ordered a yummy strawberry horchata, and he got a soda for about $50 including 20% tip. This felt like an authentic culinary experience with Spanish/English speaking employees, and mostly bilingual customers. Fully recommend!!

Hands down five stars!! As soon as I walked in I noticed the place was super clean and smells fresh hint of fabuloso which transported me to Saturday mornings at my grandmas house the smell of delicious spices filled the air. Mexican love songs playing softly in the back ground.They have many different burrito options but I was felling a bit under the weather so I ordered the chicken tortilla soup. I was hoping it would be good because so many times it’s a miss at a lot of places,but not here! The plate size was amazingly generous and the soup is hearty with plenty of chicken,vegetables,avocado and tortilla strips. The flavor is so delicious!! Soup was steamy hot but I could not stop eating it. Instantly, it warmed me up , nose was running and itchy achy ear went away.. chicken tortilla soup for the soul with a little piece of home. Shout out to the staff and the chef..I will be back here again.
