Ribs cooked just right and the tea is sweeter than my grandma’s kisses. The smells got me coming in, and food keeps me coming back. If youre in Kirkwood you MUST stop in and get you a rib plate dinner. Ill be coming back everytime I’m near.
Typically, BBQ shacks like these with wood fire smokers are the best. Unfortunately , not this one.
We got a 6 ribs diner ($26), and a braise chicken dinner ($12)
The ribs were dry and chewy, I had a hard time swallowing the meat.
The chicken tasted ok.
The BBQ sauce was good.
Overall, the taste is decent, but i couldn’t get over the quality of meat, tasted like low end meat. I ended up tossing thr chicken dinner, and I almost never throw away food!
For the price, I think you can better BBQ/ soul food else where.
I wanted to give it another chance since I was on that side of town. I had it not too long ago and was disappointed in the quality, price and the service.
For starters, every side I asked for, I was told they did not have, yet it was listed on the sides menu…I was totally confused. I asked for a BBQ chicken dinner with potato salad and Mac n cheese. I was told they did not have the potato salad. Then when I said just the chicken and Mac n cheese, the lady repeated it and said in a condescending manner “So you don’t want a dinner then, you just want chicken and Mac n cheese” so then I said well let me get baked beans…and they did not have baked beans… . So I paid $19 and some change for a chicken leg quarter, a large Mac n cheese and a small peach cobbler.
The quality of food has changed since I last frequented there in the early-mid 2000’s. Idk if the ownership has changed since, but it is definitely not the same as I remember. Tragic.
