Is it a little bit kitschy? Yes. Does it know exactly who it is, what it’s good at, and how to deliver it? Also yes.
This spicy chicken sandwich is killer, but definitely something to save for cheat day. I opted for the coleslaw over the fries, but it works better in the sandwich than as a stand-alone side. The creamy sauce is a must to cut the heat of the chicken, and it makes for an honest home-run of a combo.
The decor is hotdog-on-stick-meets-retro-gamer-boy-aesthetic, which is fun but also not somewhere I’d go for a first date. My server was a goth/scene college kid who was almost too unbothered to serve me, which honestly sold the vibe as a diner that kinda cool because it’s so uncool. I loved it. Will be back!!

This is my go-to place when I’m super hungry. Both the chicken strips and the sando are my favorites. I’m pretty good with spicy food but the medium kicks my butt, I’ll do medium hot a few times. Better regret it later haha. Quality is super good here always and the staff is super friendly.

Listen here, this place was fantastic. I almost stopped at the bar and grill a block over, and I’m so glad I didn’t. The medium heat sando was DEVINE hot and juicy all the way through. The waffle was DIVINE. The service was amazing as well. I honestly couldn’t speak any higher of this place. Food got me emotional to be completely honest. This is one of those places that you can tell cares about the quality of food they put out, and makes it feel like home. I’m grateful!

I will never forget the first time I went to Hotboys in Walnut Creek. As I was ordering the chicken with the highest level of spice they had, the owner offered a sample before I committed to a whole sandwich. He brought a glass a milk and I knew he wasn’t playing. I love spicy but I definitely needed that milk! (Now I order medium). Ever since it’s been one of my go to places in Walnut Creek. The food never disappoints, the staff are so friendly, and the music is always a vibe!
I also want to specially shout out our favorite server, Vianey. We would go to Hotboys when I was pregnant and Vianey was so welcoming. She felt like family and would make jokes about babysitting. Once we had our son we didn’t go out for a few months but when we came back she remembered us and was so excited. We absolutely love her and look forward to seeing her every time when we go in!

Absolutely phenomenal chicken sandwich!!! First and foremost, I asked for the Hot spice on my chicken sandwich and the guy/host/server smiled and walks away. I knew he was going to get me that hot sauce so I can try it and not only did he come back with the sauce but he came back with a nice piece of chicken, hot style just for me to try so that I knew what I was getting myself into.
That chicken is HOTT! This place don’t play with their spice levels!!! Not only was it spicy as hell but it was crazy juicy and flavorful! Not just hot to be hot! It tasted soooo good buuuuuuuuttttttt I had to retract my hot order and get medium hot. I love spicy but I wasn’t tryna put myself through that at the moment.
The sandwich was so huge that it filled me up and I didn’t have enough space to finish the fries! That rarely happens but this place did it! The fries are also hella good. Crispy, crunchy, and perfectly seasoned.
My friend ordered the chicken and waffles full order which is two waffles and two tenders. The waffles covered the plate and the tenders were humongous!! The waffles were perfectly cooked and delicious!
Highly recommend!!! Chicken is on point! Fries on point! Service on point! And the ambiance and decor are dope! Bay slaps playing mixed with some classic old school raps.
Do yourself a favor if you like chicken sandwiches and go here!
