As a Kansas City native, Woodyard is one of my favorite BBQ restaurants when it comes to food.
I hope management reads my review and takes it in consideration of what can improve.
I have always considered Woodyard to be an underrated BBQ place in KC.
I enjoy their Carolina style pulled pork sandwiches with fries and their delicious cornbread muffins.
I’m glad Woodyard finally started giving customers numbers when their food is ready instead of asking customers for their names. That was a modest improvement.
Im disappointed that Woodyard no longer offers fountain drinks for dining in but instead provides overpriced, canned pop. I hope this is only temporary otherwise I will be stopping at Quiktrip before I eat here going forward for drinks.

My biggest criticism and probably why Woodyard doesn’t have as much success as the local KC BBQ chains is the outdated parking. I wish Woodyard could transfer to a larger location for customers. The “parking lot” behind the restaurant is small and really difficult to find a parking spot especially considering I arrived during slow, lunch hours. I guarantee if Woodyard had better parking and had a larger dining space, they would bring in way more customers and receive some accolades with locals.

In town for my birthday and we asked around for recommendations on the best BBQ in KC. We are from St. Louis which also has a very proud BBQ scene, so we were looking to critique and enjoy!

The ambiance and the staff are great. Bad flys outside, but not sure if there is much that can be done about that? It’s next to a busy street, so it’s can be loud.

We had almost all the meat and side options. It was fine. Wasn’t bad at all, but I’m shocked at all the recommendations. Not sorry to have tried it.

I haven’t been here in forever. Saw a tick tock video lately where it said the original owner took it back so I figured I would give it another try. Only difference is that they have definitely clean the place up but the food is still not good with the exception of the ribs. The ribs were amazing everything else terrible. Took one bite of the smoked chicken wings I had to spit it out. Ate one of the burnt ends and could barely swallow it. Ended up throwing the burnt ends and the wings away. Like I already said, the ribs were amazing. Really really good. Big improvement from what they were but everything else was a big disappointment. I doubt I will go back. Lots of barbecue places out there. I would recommend you not choose this one

It’s like going to a friend’s house that grew into a barbecue joint. Which it is. Best ribs in the city. Just the right hold on the bone. Added an order of shoestring fries. Got a spicy local Ginger Gale beer, a perfect match to the sauce.

I was less than impressed and should have taken more reviews into consideration. I had the pulled pork and turkey. The pulled pork tasted like it came out of a crockpot. Not a trace of smoke or seasoning. The turkey had a hint of mold and fishy taste to it. Rather insulting to someone who drove an hour for KC BBQ. The choice of sides were just standard. I had the beans, which were about the best part of the meal, they were decent. They didn’t have bbq sauce on hand which would have helped. Nor was it offered. There are no fountain drinks. You have to buy cans or bottles. The wait/bar staff were nice, aside from not mentioning that bbq sauce had to be requested. The place looked convicing, but maybe they should put more money and effort in a smoker and not being so stingy with the drinks and sauce.

When I say KC burnt ends a picture come to your mind: caramelized, burnt, fatty, smoky ect…. A KC sacred tradition. I ordered some here and I am still taken back, lol. Zero smoke flavor, no burnt carmalization, and in a pool of sauce! All I taste is a salty vinegar bbq sauce! Let me put on sauce if I want it! I want to first enjoy the smokey, burnt flavors KC burnt ends usually deliver on. I have never been so disappointed with a KC bbq experience.

The fries were delicious. Then I got the Triple P. It was mid. Lacked bbq flavor imo but, I finished it. Problem with the sandwich is that the pulled pork was so wet (do you crock pot cook it???) That my bottom bun was soggy and nasty. This place has slowly been going down hill- it’s sad to see.

I’ll stop on a positive note, I have historically likes their chili and look forward to trying it again this fall.

Got the three meat platter, standout were the chicken wings. Very affordable price wise.

Vibes inside were immaculate, it was off-peak time so we had the joint to ourselves but we will swing back through this patio season to hydrate with some sudz outback.

1st time trying. Stopped in quickly for lunch. Pretty unique spot. Sits on a bigger piece of land on Merriam Lane. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Appears to be a home that was converted into a restaurant.
Ordered a BBQ plate with 2 meats. Chose brisket, sausage, and added a rib. The brisket was sliced thin and a bit fatty and greasy for my taste. Not bad however. The sausage was great! Flavorful and cooked perfectly. A little disappointed with the add a rib option. Thought I would get a pork spare rib, but got 2 small baby back ribs instead. The cheesy bowtie pasta side was excellent. Overall pretty good. Wouldn’t rule out another visit, trying some other items.

I like the laid back ‘down home” atmosphere. The service was quick and employees friendly and accommodating. I had the pulled pork and slaw and a side of beans. The pork was moist and flavorful. The beans were spot on delicious.
No complaints!
