Quick update: I went back with the family and they loved it. I sampled many more meats.
Highly recommend the Woodpile sandwich and pit beans
The meat came out room temperature. When we asked an employee about warming them up, there isn’t a viable option to do so. They are kept in warming trays and then walked down a drafty hallway with the only option of putting it in the oven which would overcook them. So we had to accept cold food which is awful considering its almost $50 for 2 people. It’s not an ideal dine in during winter but the food would get cold via carry out as well. Plus the food itself is just mediocre for the cost with a lot of additional charges on their menu. The only hot item was their collard greens. There are just better places in the area for bbq that will come out hot with better flavor for slightly better pricing (arkins, brown iron, mission bbq).
This was my first time ever ordering from this restaurant and trusted that they would deliver on quality of food by the reviews. I placed a take out order on the 4th which ended up leaving me with food poisoning. When I called today (2/7) to bring it to the attention of the manager just for a quality check up for anyone else that comes in I was dismissed and told “Well no one else has called with this issue”.
The brisket was decent as was the sausage.
I didn’t care for the ribs very much but I enjoyed most of the house made BBQ sauces. It’s not a bad BBQ spot but if there’s a Famous Dave’s nearby, I’d recommend going there.
I ordered the weekday lunch special for $12.95 – one meat, one side and a pop – and got a second side becauseI couldnt decide. Still under $20 with tip.
The lady at the counter was very pleasant and possessed an honest sense of humor and wore a smile the whole time.
One bite of the brisket, before sauce and without the bun, and I knew I’d be back here. Perfection in three thick slices carefully laid on the bun. Moist, tender, almost falling apart.
Then I tried the mac & cheese. Another hit. I wish I could make it half as good. Noodles are perfectly cooked, the sauce is almost decadent in its flavor and delightfully creamy.
The coleslaw. Among the best I’ve ever had. It has actual flavor. Not just some cabbage & dressing, there is thought behind this side. Multiple vegetables with just a hint of cayenne (?) & maybe horseradish. Not hot, just seriously tasty.
Even the corn bread, wrapped in foil, was moist, sweet, delicious.
The tables built around barrels are cool, as are the “live edge” high tops. There is outdoor seating as well for the non-winter months.
They have carry-out as well.
Like I said before, I’ll be back. Having recently moved from Tampa area, I have to try the Barbe-Cuban sandwich to see how it stacks up.
