The Wooden Angel is perfect for special occasions and celebrations, and they have a lot of options for everyday, too. The food is upscale and everything is beautifully done. The menu is thoughtful with something for everything, including seasonal dishes and holiday menus.

The wine selection is excellent and well-curated, with great pairings that really enhance the meal. The cocktails are always changing and full of flavor. Service is relaxed, knowledgeable, and never rushed, which is exactly what you want when you’re there to enjoy good food and good wine.

A true Beaver favorite! #Legsndary #Epic

Absolutely outstanding experience at The Wooden Angel. I’ve eaten at restaurants all around the country and even internationally, and this was truly an amazing place. The lobster bisque was incredibly flavorful without being overly acidic, and the chicken Parmesan sandwich was phenomenal—one of the best I’ve had.

Most importantly, our waitress Don was exceptional. She was genuinely one of the nicest and most attentive servers we’ve ever had. She checked in at all the right times, made great conversation, and truly elevated the entire dining experience.

The rest of the staff was equally impressive. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and even offered coat service. Throughout the meal, our drinks were continuously refilled without ever needing to ask.

Hands down the best service I’ve experienced in Pittsburgh, and honestly among the best in the entire state. We will absolutely be back.

Where to begin. Been quite a while since i’ve had dinner at the wooden angel. Sadly, the restaurant had not changed a bit, still looked exactly the way it did ten or more years ago. The booth we sat in, had seats that were unable to support us, It felt like we were little children at a big table, that’s how far down we sank, which cost us two literally laugh out loud, another couple near us, overheard our giggling, and said, that’s why they were seated at a table. Because their booth was the same way! Service was amazing! Our server could not have been more on point, as were the young ladies, clearing plates and filling water, they also could not have been more efficient, ir polite. My wife and I ordered dinner. She had the fillet, which was grilled to perfection, the blistered beans were soggy and limp, her potato was tiny which is fine with her, she’s petite also. I ordered the sixteen ounce pork chop Berkshire. it arrived at the table looking like a five star meal. The beans where lukewarm at best and very soggy and limp. The apples on the pork chop were remarkable, the pork chop itself looked perfect. Plump appeared to be perfectly cooked and juicy, light grill marks, Yum. Apon trying to cut into it, was another matter, altogether, literally had to saw through it, forcibly with the tiny steak knife, looked into the center of the piece of meat and saw no pinkness, which was a little sad. but doesn’t mean it’s a bad pork chop, right? I picked the cut up, set it on my tongue and immediately burnt the tip of my tongue with the inside of the meat, I don’t mean it was just hot. I mean, it blistered the tip of my tongue, here I am in a what’s considered an upscale restaurant spatting out a piece of meat, and cursing, my wife thought I was being absurd. I gave her a piece too, she could not eat the piece of meat as it was so hot. Meat is my life. I process and cook meat almost daily, a pork chop. That’s over an inch thick, should never exceed a 150 degrees, 160 if you like it well done, which I do not. I ordered mine medium rare. Needless to say, it was hard to chew, incredibly grainy, and of course, over well done.
The baked potato was equally hot on the inside, and probably one of the smallest potatoes I’ve ever been served as a baked potato. I asked our server why they would microwave such a beautiful piece of meat, as I could see no other reason for the meat and the potato to be that hot on the inside. She was mortified and exclaimed that there is no microwave, nor would they ever do such a thing, and they would gladly take it off of my bill, I refused I said I ordered it, I will eat it. Then again I told her I just cannot understand how it could be that hot if it wasn’t microwaved. Honestly I expected a visit from the manager to explain, or possibly somebody from the kitchen. But alas nothing was said about it. We paid our bill, tiped generously as our server again was remarkable, and left it was a birthday dinner for my wife, she enjoyed her meal, and was happy. But sadly we probably won’t be returning to the Angel.

We visited the Wooden Angel for our anniversary this past weekend. Not a single complaint – the service was prompt and courteous. The food was absolutely stellar!! (we had a filet oscar, prime rib, scallops oscar, lobster bisque and French onion soup). Dim lighting for an elegant atmosphere and an awesome piano man playing some casual tunes as you enjoy dinner. Will definitely return!

We have been using the Wooden Angel since the early 1970s and have always been pleased, from special occasions for two to private dinners for 8-10, to larger receptions in the wine cellar or banquet room. Alex and his staff are excellent and helpful. The prices are very reasonable for what great food, beverages and service you receive; better than most Pittsburgh restaurants. My family, friends and clients have never been disappointed! Also, as Alex told me, he can provide an excellent bottle of wine from the $20s or also from the $100s – his approach was to drink good wine that you like. It still my favorite restaurant regardless of where I am traveling.

I’m very disheartened by my experience at the wooden angel, I had heard good things about it being an upscale restaurant with quality food but it was nothing of the sort. We were sat immediately which was nice, but the service was beyond slow. There was bust tray cart left in sight the entire night of my meal, not to mention the dusty and dirty glasses that were on the table and given to us when ordered a drink. The food was average, nothing really left me wanting more. Wish I could’ve had a better experience.

We just visited the Wooden Angel restaurant for our 21st wedding anniversary.. it was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. I am a senior citizen and I’ve been to many restaurants. The atmosphere, the food, the service was excellent. Our new go to restaurant. The lobster tail was excellent, the steak was excellent, the baked potato was excellent even the water was excellent.

Food poisoning. We doordash-ed our order for veterans day. I got the chicken parmesan that comes with fruit last night, and it seemed a bit off from the get-go. Everything was cold, I figured it may have been from the dasher taking too long, but they actually got there pretty quickly, considering.

The chicken was cold and bland, the potatoes were awful so I only ate a few, and the fruit definitely wasn’t fresh. Most of my fruit was overly soft and had a funny taste, almost like someone had poured soda into it? it seemed like it had “fizz” or something. Even though I stopped eating it, I’m still sick this morning, likely food poisoning, with a fever. With what we paid I at least expect to not be fed rotten food.

Moved to the area and wanted to try out this restaurant. The positives are the ambiance is nice in there. The staff are friendly and there was an older gentleman playing the piano all evening which was very nice. The restaurant is older, at times though it did feel a bit dated vs intentional/well kept. The booth seats are a bit too low to the ground compared to the chairs. The food took close to 30mins to come out (even just the salad). The restaurant wasnt that busy. The courses in general were slow, so wonder if they have limited amount of chefs. We got the scallops to start which were fine, nothing to write home about. For mains we got the filet mignon. Both meals came with a purple flower which I thought was a bit odd. The vegetables that accompanied the steak just didn’t seem appropriate or from the correct season. The mash tasted like smash (out of a packet). After tax etc the filet is over $60. Honestly for that price we were quite disappointed. We both order medium rare one came out that way the other was more medium/well done. When we both order the same thing its very easy to compare. The garlic bread was good and the salad was fine.

All in all just a bit overpriced for the quality of the food. If they could just put a bit more care into the building and improve the food this would have been a place we’d have liked to come back to.

The food and service have always been great! If I had one suggestion- the aesthetics of the restaurant could use a little updating. Overall, I would highly recommend this restsurant.
