The tri‑tip came with two sides — I went with peanut coleslaw and french fries. The steak was hella juicy and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of smoky flavor from the grill. The peanut coleslaw was made from red cabbage. The peanut complemented the cabbage well.
The half chicken was impressive too. It had that ideal charred finish, the kind that actually tastes delicious rather than burnt. The chicken itself was incredibly juicy, and it came with a savory dipping sauce. I’m pretty sure the sauce was meant to help keep the chicken moist, but honestly, my plate didn’t need it because it was already that good. Even the broccoli on the side was cooked perfectly: tender, bright, and not overdone.
The cauliflower was good too: flavorful, nicely seasoned, and roasted just right.
The service really tied the whole experience together. My server was super friendly and genuinely helpful. She had personally tried the dishes she was recommending, which made her suggestions feel more authentic. I ended up ordering most of my meal based on her picks, and I’m glad I did. She even brought out a bowl of water for my dog, a small gesture, but it said a lot about how thoughtful and kind she was.
I usually dine at the Wood Ranch in Thousand Oaks, but I stopped at this one because I was in the area.
While my side salad was delicious, the portions of my entrees, particularly the beef ribs, were burnt. The Brussels sprouts were overcooked, old, and absolutely inedible. I don’t usually like to complain, but I felt I had to address this issue, so I informed the bartender that I didn’t want the Brussels sprouts. He graciously replaced them with sweet corn, which was much better. I forced myself to eat one burnt rib and brought the rest home simply because I dislike complaining. However, I felt it was necessary to speak up about the Brussels sprouts. As customers, when we voice our concerns, we often feel like the antagonists when all we want is delicious food, good customer service, and a well-maintained establishment. The management should be ashamed to serve such poor quality.
Please be cautious about this establishment. In my opinion, it’s not a Wood Ranch restaurant worth visiting, and I feel my money was wasted!
What I was most excited about, though, was getting to enjoy the rolls in person. There’s just something about them that tastes so much better when they’re hot, fresh out of the oven, rather than to go. I was so excited that the waitress even gave me some extra rolls to take home!
They also have a daily happy hour in their bar area, where you can enjoy $2 off specific drinks and great deals on many appetizers. I’ll definitely be back to check it out another time.
This location tends to get busy in the evenings and on weekends, so I’d recommend making a reservation if you can!
At our table we had some food allergies and sensitivities and Daniella (along with the chef staff) went above and beyond in helping accommodate our needs. Food was absolutely delicious, highly recommend the ribs, smashed sweet potato (my favorite side here) and the Mac and cheese. BlackBerry smash with gin is also really tasty. Can’t wait to come back again!
Oh, they told us their was a 30+ minute wait. No, it was 15mins tops. This place was quite busy. Parking was busy even though there was a lot of parking.
