Saw lots of reviews for 5 and 1 star on this place. So I was intrigued to see what the fuss was about. Turns out there is none. The oyster platter was great, although cheddar isn’t a great flavor to pair with oysters. My J.O. friend platter was hit and miss. The shrimp was overcooked and the fish was dry, but the scallops and fried oysters were great. My shrimp poboy was dry and needs some kind of sauce to go with it, but the shrimp on that was cooked perfectly. But the fries that came with it were severly under cooked. My sides of cheese grits and fried ocra were wonderful. So some areas great some very disappointing. The staff were pleasant and attentive. So really id say the price doesn’t match the quality is the biggest issue. I’d give it one more shot but would order something different.

Passing through on my way from Atlanta to Mobile and stopped in for dinner. Absolutely AMAZING meal and the service was phenomenal!!! From the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by the hostess, I felt welcome as a dining guest and they each made me feel appreciated for my business.

The Redfish Bienville was scrumptious and the fried okra and red beans and rice were tasty! It was a truly ENJOYABLE dining experience!! The serving portions are quite generous and the entire restaurant team offered excellent service with a genuine smile!!

Tiffany was especially AWESOME! Each of the individuals with whom I had the pleasure had of interacting this Sunday evening are an asset to the Wintzell’s Oyster House Greenville team!!!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND stopping in for a fantastic meal and exceptional service!!!

The atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable and the food was amazing. I had surf and turf that was deliciously seasoned and expeditiously prepared. The steak was a perfect medium rare and the shrimp were grilled to perfection. My server Ada was most excellent, friendly and attentive, she kept my glass full and made sure I had a great experience. Thank you Ada for the top notch service and thank you Wintzells for the 5 star dining experience.

I’m from Florida. I’ve tried some real, fresh, genuinely good seafood in my life. I love seafood, tried it all, Im very tolerant of seafood and anything “fishy.” My palate is wide.

I came to this resturant because the reviews were good.

The food was lack luster and some of it was just plain bad. I ordered the mahi plate with a side of salad and French fries. The fish was very over cooked, dry, and the seasoning they used was bad. Inedible. I couldn’t eat it. The mushrooms they put on it were not fresh. Fries were severely undercooked. Shrimp cocktail tails were brown, shrimps were not cold or fresh. The only thing i was able to eat entirely was the salad.

For the prices, the quality of the food was very bad. I will not be returning.

Also, the resturant was dirty. Floors desperately need to be cleaned.

Order the shrimp and grits….they come with crawfish on top….it may be one but it is still a crawfish. Pretty sad for the amount paid. The flavor was not amazing, just run of the mill. We probably won’t be back but if we do, it will not be on the shrimp and grits with one crawfish. No all of the shrimp are shelled, it wouldn’t be a big deal if they weren’t supposed to be but shell is not what is expected in shrimp and grits. Either the manager has very low expectations of the employees or the employees do not share the commitment to quality food as the management team.

My girlfriend and I stopped to eat at Wintzell’s this evening. We travel the country weekly and try new places that seem to be hot spots in the areas we are in. We were on our towards Mobile, AL when we come across Wintzell’s on Google. Wasn’t sure if we could get in because we are truck drivers. To our surprise there was a big parking lot across from them. So if you drive truck and want good food outside of the standard garbage they serve in truck stops. We highly recommend this place to fellow drivers. The place was clean, friendly and fast. We ordered the fried green tomatoes with a crawdad sauce. It was over the top with flavor!!!! Our entrees was the fried JO with a loaded baked potato and collard greens. Again the flavors were great. The fried catfish well…it left a lot to be desired. Not sure if it was undercooked, overcooked or just a couple bad pieces that slipped through quality control. Service was great so make sure you go in and ask for Shea. Definitely A+. We would definitely stop back here if ever back in the area.

Had a dozen oysters, they were awesome! Also had the shrimp po boy, nom, nom, mom. Atmosphere was nice, lots to look at. Service was a bit slow for the time of day, but there can be a million reasons for that. Go get a beer and a dozen!

Stopped for lunch on a whim, after trying to find a good place to eat which was NOT fast food. Excellent crab cakes! Good atmosphere and very friendly staff!

Was heading to Gulf Shores and saw this place after getting gas. I love seafood so I thought I would give it a try. I noticed they had Charbroiled Oysters on menu and that is something I absolutely love. Please note that Acme Oyster House and Dragoons is the only place I have ever eaten them so, the bar is already set to the top when doing a comparison. I have to admit that these fell far below what I had eaten at the other places. I am not saying that I didn’t enjoy them, but it was like comparing a little league team to the MLB – no comparison! I will say that I commend this place for their customer service!!! They were a little busy which took a little longer to get my food. They added six extra oysters to my order for having to wait. That is the equivalent on knocking $12.99 off my bill. Most restaurants care more of their bottom line instead of the customer. GREAT JOB ON THAT!!!
I did have the lunch Fried Shrimp as well. Once again, if you have had B & J’s in Darren, GA, you would know what I’m talking about.
I will return if I am this way again just due to the fact of how I was treated and what they did. I will order something different, but hopefully it will all work out!
