I had a fantastic experience at Wingo’s Grill in Matewan! The pork sandwich was absolutely delicious—tender, flavorful, and perfectly smoked. You can tell they put real care into their BBQ, and the homemade sauces added the perfect touch.
What really made the visit special was the owners. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. It’s clear they take pride in their restaurant and care about their customers. The atmosphere was cozy and filled with local charm, which added to the overall great experience.
If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Wingo’s. Great food, great people, and an all-around awesome place to grab a meal!

On my road trip through West Virginia, I stopped in the historic town of Matewan. It was definitely a hot day that day and getting a cool beverage was very appealing to me . I was also hungry and wanted a good, sit down meal. I then found Wingo’s Grill on the Main Street of town. The exterior reminded me of an old western saloon. The interior didn’t disappoint either, I found it again to be a very western style theme. I loved the fact that the AC was on and the restaurant was nice & cool. Our hostesses greeted us with that amazing southern charm & draw. She seated us at the table I requested & promptly took our drink orders. I had to go with the freshly brewed iced sweet tea. Your seating options will be booth or table, what’s cool is no two tables are the same! Our waitress came over introduced herself, gave us menus and made special recommendations. She was just pure awesome, very friendly, polite & the sweet WV accent. We placed our food orders and I walked around for a few minutes checking out the place. The walls are covered in the history of the Hatfields & McCoys. I also didn’t realize that this was a big part of the Hatfield & McCoy trail. Our orders were up quick, our waitress made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meals. She was on point with refilling my sweet iced tea, I was really putting it away! We had chicken & homemade nachos , I Philly steak sandwich & the bacon, potato sandwich. The food was simply amazing, perfectly prepared with fresh ingredients & toppings, I cant believe how good it was, definitely not plain greasy bar food. I absolutely loved this restaurant & staff. It really was an experience that I will remember. If you’re down in Matewan, WV you must dine here.

Excellent food, excellent service. The full rack of ribs are a little expensive but DEFINITELY worth it. We’ll definitely be back for more. I highly recommend eating here.

Came in to Matewan while riding the Hatfield McCoy trails. The wonderful smell of BBQ smoking in the whisky barrel still smoker made our lunch choice super easy. We both had the pulled pork sandwich and fries and amazing is not the word. Perfect pulled pork with phenomenal house-made sauces to shoes from on a toasted bun. . The fries were crispy and hot. Portion sizes were very generous for the reasonable prices. Server was super friendly, the restaurant and bathrooms clean and the atmosphere (love those old wood floors) made this a perfect spot to enjoy a great meal.

Unfortunately this was a bit of a disappointment. The smell outside was fantastic but the taste didn’t live up to the expectation. The BBQ wasn’t bad. But the wings were slimy and kinda like eating rubber. And very expensive not to be able to eat it. Now the fries were good. Maybe it was just an off night.

We came into town to go riding. The place looked pretty cool so we decided to give it a try. We should have known since we were the only guests there at 6pm on a Friday evening. Non of the food except the fries were good…that’s all I could even eat from my plate. Very dry and no seasoning. The workers seemed to know better than to even ask how our food was when we paid. It’s sad because if they served good food they’d probably be busy.
