It’s been a couple years since I moved away and I haven’t been back since. Today, I had some business to conduct in the area and I was thrilled to be close enough to order my favorite classic BBQ Pork and Crab Rangoon. The person I spoke with on the phone was very kind and was in person when I picked up my food, as well. However…
The food has completely changed. I had no idea the restaurant had changed management and I wish I did before I wasted $18. This was honestly some of the worst Chinese food I’ve ever tasted.
The Crab Rangoon was sooooo unbelievably salty and it tasted of strong, unpleasant seafood. It was genuinely so gross that I couldn’t even finish 1 of the 6 that came in my order. The BBQ pork wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever tasted, but it’s no longer the tender, sweet, flavorful dish it used to be. It doesn’t taste Chinese anymore. It actually tastes more like American BBQ ribs, which is completely NOT what you want when you order from a Chinese restaurant. There were a couple tender pieces, but most were tough. Since I spent the money, I forced myself to eat 1/4 of the order before I had to throw the rest away with 5/6 of the Crab Rangoon. Such a waste. It’s hard to justify spending so much money ordering out nowadays, especially just for two items that used to cost $9 for both, so it hurts even more that a restaurant can expect $18 for food that’s so unappetizing.
I hate being so harsh, especially in a world where small businesses and restaurants are struggling, but this meal was so shockingly bad that I had to speak up. I used to love ordering from this restaurant, but if they’re going to change their products and recipes this heavily then they should have the respect to change their name, as well, and not ruin the reputation of the wonderful business that came before them.
We had a taste for something sweet and a little spicy. My daughter had been begging to go to Panda Express. As a dad I wanted to introduce her to a, new to us local, Chinese restaurant close to our home to keep local businesses in business. We use Google to choose the restaurant with the best rating 4.2 win the area. I was explaining to my daughter how much better the food is going to be than a chain restaurant like Panda Express. This was not the case we ordered Orange chicken and General Tau chicken. Two dishes that we could not wait to get our hands on. We called in the order and it took less that 17 minutes to be ready. When we got the food was bagged and ready. Once we got home the chicken was so tuff and dry that we could not eat it. My daughter is now under the impression that Panda Express has the best Chinese Food. 🙁 We had to trough out $31 plus tip of food most of it uneaten.
We had the shrimp egg foo yong and it was delicious! The shrimp were big, seasoned well, and the egg texture was juicy. The egg roll was also good. The lunch special is a good deal! I highly recommend them.
I then ask for fried rice and of course problems again, oh that’s only lunch special!
Okay….? So how did my simple dinner of general sou come out to $27!!!
Is this guy just making up prices hoping you pay?
I hung right up! Next! Tons of Chinese places around don’t play games with my money!!!
How come every Chinese place in a 10 miles radio is has 13 dollar dinner specials!
Scammers!!!!
However, the place clearly uses cheap ingredients and overcharging like crazy. There aren’t any lunch specials they have an “all day” special $14.50 after tax (crazy). The price mixed with the quality of the food means I for sure won’t be back.
I personally go for the fried rice, and it is usually great quality consistently every time I order, and a fair price too in this economy.
Would highly recommended this place!
