Stopped in and got a chili cheese dog and fries to go. Foot long hot dog with snap. Chili on top was also good. Cheese seemed like cheese whiz. It was a little messy. Not too bad. The bun held together. Fries were good. Nothing special. Simple dining area. Clean. Friendly staff. Quick service. I would go again.

Stopped by The Windmill last night for a late-night bite. I had a couple friends over and we wanted good-quality, affordable food and this place delivered.We ordered two crispy chicken sandwiches, a Cali cheeseburger, a hot dog, and cheese fries, and the total was under $35!
The store was spotless, and the two men working were so friendly and efficient. They prepared our food quickly while still making great conversation. I usually don’t post reviews, but in this economy, finding a spot that’s affordable, clean, and genuinely good quality is something I cannot gatekeep. Highly recommend!

We had a great experience! The employees are awesome! Very friendly and helpful. They came around and asked how was everything and if we wanted refills of our drinks, and promptly took care of the refills. We look forward to returning there!

Today I went to the Windmill in Belmar for National Hot Dog Day. I ordered a hot dog, hamburger, and lemonade. I meant to get a chili dog and cheeseburger but failed to specify that. Don’t know what I was thinking. I’ll remember next time.
The hot dogs here are consistently good. Today was no different. My hot dog was prepared perfectly. Piping hot as opposed to lukewarm like the hot dogs I had this past weekend. And at 4 to a lb it has some substance unlike the pencil thin 12 to a lb cocktail franks. This particular frank, a Sabrett pork and beef, has a great snap and a subtle blend of mild spices. A top notch hot dog.
My burger was the first one I’ve ever had at a Windmill and I’ve been going over 20 years. I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. I ordered it medium rare and it came out that way. Too many places overcook a burger. It stood out for it’s rich charbroiled flavor. I will be getting it whenever I go to the Windmill. Sorry I waited this long.
The Windmill is known for excellent service. I’ve never had anything less in all the years I’ve been going. The staff here is young and energetic. They truly seem to love their job. It’s refreshing and adds to the experience. A great way to spend National Hot Dog Day. The only thing that would make it better would be if my wife was still here to enjoy it with me like so many times in the past.

Worth a visit for the heritage and experience even if the food is nothing special. Classic lunch counter fare, but pricier than it feels like it deserves, and everything is so, so salty. Regarding the famous cheese fries, the fries themselves are good but the cheese sauce is just Kraft Cheez Whiz.

Food was excellent, prices are a bit high but the restaurant was a MESS!! There were only 3 customers there and 2 had already been served. It was great to have no line to wait in but I couldn’t help but notice all the food on the floor behind the cashier. When I inspected the dining room for a place to eat, All table tops AND counter tops were filthy. I understand a busy day but there were 5 employees there with 3 customers. Someone could have cleaned the dining room.
