Headed by native North Carolinian Spencer Brantley, our barbecue is cooked in the traditional Eastern North Carolina, pit-smoked whole hog style, using recipes and techniques handed down through generations of the Brantley family of Wilson County, North Carolina. Had an amazing brunch at Wilson County BBQ. It was such a treat to enjoy some authentic Southern-style food. I ordered the chicken and waffles along with the pork belly Benedict, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the waffles paired perfectly with it. The pork belly Benedict was rich, savory, and cooked perfectly.

All I can say is WOW. No frills here. Ordered the shrimp platter. Comes with TEN HUGE fried shrimp, two sides and a choice of hush puppies or biscuit. $20 for all of this. Easily the best $20 I’ve ever spent.
This place is not your average restaurant, it is a seat yourself place. You go up to the counter and order, and then wait for and grab your food. Personally I really loved this aspect of the restaurant. It created an air of causality and a laid back atmosphere.
The man who took our order was extremely friendly and asked about our weekend plans. He seemed truly happy to serve us.
For reference, we came at noon on a friday and plenty of tables were open.
Some parking is available in the back but don’t rely on having a spot.
This place is definitely a must try and I will be back!

The food looks better in the photos than it taste. A bit overpriced for the quality — $35 for baby back ribs with two sides. The rub on them was just okay. You order at the counter and then wait for your food. It took a while for our food to be ready even though they weren’t too busy. The atmosphere was nice with indoor and outdoor seating. But, if you’re looking for great BBQ I would look elsewhere.

What I’d like to draw attention to is the cord of wood planted on the sidewalk in the crosswalk and therefore blocking compliance for ADA accessibility. If this had been dropped off and allocated to the wood crib within the day would be fine. But there’s snow on it from last night so it’s been longer than a day. The manager told me they’ve been doing it for four years this way which is to say that Wilson County needs to have the forethought to have staff to put away the wood same day or have it delivered in another spot to not obstruct pedestrians when the sidewalks are already treacherous. As a neighbor I don’t think Wilson County is doing the neighborly thing.

I’ll begin by saying that this was the first BBQ place i sat down and ate in since moving up here from TX. I love their chicken sandwich and their biscuits. However, i’m getting on here to brag about their cauliflower buffalo bites. It might be just me but they are SO GOOD. The cauliflower seemed fresh not frozen, the buffalo sauce was 12/10, and i think i found my new regular thing. I’ll be thinking about these cauliflowers until next time. They also have a cute lil patio for when you want to sit with your pup and share some ribs.

There are a lot of things to like with Wilson County Barbecue. It’s in a bustling part of Portland and has ample space for large crowds, small groups of friends and families. The beer selection is immense and includes several local breweries. The spirits are also flowing.
Find a table, order at the kiosk and get ready to feast because these chicken sandwiches are HUGE. They were quite good too, if I’m honest. The breading and construction of the fried chicken fillet was top notch. The bread was strong and held nicely, despite my one quarrel — the mess. If you’re going to get these fried chicken sandwiches, grab yourself a roll of napkins. They drench the thing in their house sauce. It’s delicious but they went a bit over the top on our sandwiches and we had a hell of time trying to eat them.
If I’m being critical, that’s why I couldn’t justify a five-star result but there are a myriad of components that are 5-star quality!

Great vibes, excellent customer service and delicious food !! Several craft beers to choose from and wonderful cocktails!! The Spicy Margarita & Blood Orange Margarita were so good! We will definitely return for amazing BBQ, biscuits and Mac and Cheese.
