Willees Tavern has been around for more than 80 years. It was established as a bar and restaurant in 1935 after the prohibition ended. The famous fish sandwich has been an attraction at Willees Tavern since the inception. The current owner, Ron Ferragonio, and a previous owner bought Willees Tavern in 1972. Then, in 1979 and 1983, the new owners began to remodel Willee’s Tavern.

We had dinner here on a random weekday night and it was delicious. Our server was very attentive and the atmosphere was fun. This local hidden gem is well worth the visit if your looking for a great meal or getting a drink with a friend.

Service was terrible. Took awhile to in order the food. Once the food came it was missing things. Asked for it. Was able to eat half of a hoagie before the ordered condiments came. Never got any refills either. I definitely won’t be going back. I heard how the fish was so good. Everyone at our table had overcooked fish. Just my experience. I was there around one and it was not real busy either

Good food. We were in a larger party so the service was not great. Not sure if that was due to the waitress or the party size. We reserved the private room. But it was not great for conversing with others. There were bar tables on one side, the down the middle separating orhers. And on the other side were booths. Which left others at lower levels. As for the food, it had good flavor, but was not labeled correctly. The southwest burger stated it had onion straws, but cane with 2 onion rings. Which is a big difference in taste, texture and size of burger. So the burger would not even fit in your mouth.

We overlook Ron’s political ideas and arrogance. What he did to his long time bartenders is just not right! The wife & I meet for dinner & drinks every Thursday. And the last 3 Thursdays NO Bruce NO Lisa. I know Bruce was retiring, so where is Lisa. Luckily I talk to them outside of Willees. The owner, Ron Ferragamo took hours/days away from longtime employees and gave their days to a new employee. With no explanation or reason. We don’t come to Willys for the food. Its bar food you can get anywhere. We come to Willees to see Bruce and Lisa. I understand change. But that’s not what happened here. My God Bruce has worked for you for 40 years and Lisa 4 or 5 years Im guessing. Ron I thought you were a better person. What you did was wrong! Won’t see our faces at Willees again. Thats low even for you! Good luck to you my friend! 2 ex-regulars

Fantastic place. My dad remembers it from his childhood, and while it’s not exactly the same, it’s still excellent. Massive cod/shrimp. Great fries that stay crispy. Great appetizers. Service was good, and the whole place certainly suited the food and its quality.

Awesome tavern with outstanding food!! Great atmosphere there are sound pads on the ceilings so you can actually hear the people at your table. Very impressed and I will return soon. The broiled fish was excellent as was their beef soup.

Perfect seasoned whole wings. (Top tier.)
The locals tell legends of the wings at Willees, which is something you hear repeatedly across every small town in Western Pennsylvania, but rarely does the local flavor live up to the hype. Willees does!
Upon first inspection, the wings did not look like they had enough seasoning. Before even taking a bite, I noted to ask for extra seasoning when I ordered again. But, after a couple wings, I realized they had exactly the correct amount of seasoning. These were delicious!
Outside crisp and crunchy. Inside juicy. Very little oil left on the wings. Their fryer oil must be very fresh and clean. No fish flavor in the wings so they are keeping fryers separate. Wings were all large, no small hidden wings in the 1½ dozen we purchased.
They are not the only place to offer perfect whole wings in all of Western Pennsylvania; I can think of about six other places that perform at this level. But, you won’t find anywhere better, either.

Fridays during Lent the place is packed. They have the largest fish sandwich I have ever seen. The white fish is mild and fresh. The picture shows a “small” fish sandwich.
