This is not a pub or bar, its a community.
We arrived in NY recently and were staying in Guttenberg.
The Wild Rover was very close so we went in the first night and ended up going back every night after.
Its a local pub where bar staff and regulars are close, but the mentality that has been fostered has been to welcome outsiders. We felt the full benefit of that. We had great nights there and theres always something on. Top marks to the Karaoke Thursday night. I cant recommend this place highly enough, go if youre in the area and want a place to feel really welcome.
I made lots of friends and would go back in a heartbeat.
Big shout out to the barstaff, Alyssa (thank you for cooking us chicken fingers night 1), Shauna(thank you for teaching me about college football), I forget names but my man in the flat cap, a legend. And to the bartender with all the cats/dogs(Hanna??), thanks for pretending I wasnt in during the day.
Finally to Sean Kerrigan, it was lovely to meet you. You should be proud that you brought the best of Ireland to a small town in NJ and made people’s lives better, everyone there has had their lives enriched by the rover. You’re a true fulfilling immigrant.
Shoutout to Tilden, Alex and comedienne Gina. It was amazing to meet you.
Please take care of my man “Little Tipperary”, he’s very good at darts

0/5 stars. Please read.

As an out-of-towner looking for a welcoming spot, this was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. The environment felt unsafe and exclusionary. We were met with immediate hostility, including but not limited to the bouncer putting his hands on me, and discriminatory behavior before we could even order a drink. We felt slandered and deeply unwelcome. I would strongly advise others to find a more inclusive and professional establishment.

I’ve been to The Wild Rover many times and never disrespected anyone there, but one night I was treated unfairly by the bouncer named Tony. When I arrived, he told me I couldn’t go inside because I was “too drunk,” even though there were plenty of people far more intoxicated being allowed in.
I respected what he said and waited outside like he told me to, but then he suddenly told me I was banned forever — even though I never said or did anything disrespectful. I’m a Hispanic Latino man, and the whole situation made me feel completely singled out and disrespected.
It’s disappointing because this is where all my friends hang out, and I’ve always supported this bar. I hope management takes situations like this seriously and treats everyone fairly and with respect.

Normally, it’s a friendly atmosphere. They have Kareoke on Thursday nights last I remember. Mondays they will do a trivia night when I have gone. It’s a small neighborhood type of dive bar with a juke box and they have billiards. If you want regular beer it’s well priced. The mixed drinks are expensive from what I remember. The bartender is really friendly. I come here sometimes with my friend who lives by here and enjoy the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this friendly dive bar.

We were visiting from Wisconsin and found this place. We were not there too long before we knew we found our spot. Bartenders were great, Sarah and Ed. They had a lot of advice for us. The regulars were great. Bought a sweatshirt. If I lived in the area this would be my hangout spot.

Lifelong regular here. It’s the best local spot for a quiet night out for some well deserved chicken tenders and drinks.

I’ve been kicked out of way better establishment than this. Smells like steel beer and the beer taste just like that. Terrible service as well.

The best place for st. Patrick’s day!!!!
It was a block party with drinks, multiple bands, drinks outside, dog friendly, and free corned beef in the back. The corned beef made me so happy!!!!

Thank you for having such an amazing event for st. Patrick’s day. I will be coming by again on a regular night when I can find parking there.

Went for a bday party. Had a blast. Staff was great. Except there’s a Karen that lives next door and seems to wait up until 2am closing to yell at anyone on her stoop. It was quite aggressive. Beware lol

Cheap drinks, great atmosphere, friendly staff, not a place to go for food, but they do have microwaveable delights to bring you back to life! They do kareoke too!
