The squash casserole small plate was phenomenal, and the fish entree was delicious. The snack plate featured some of the best tasting pimento cheese I’ve ever had and the chow chow made me feel like I was sitting at my grandma’s kitchen table.
Our server, Emily, was always on point with a fresh drink, solid menu recommendations, and friendly table service. Nicole crafted impeccable cocktails that were refreshing and well balanced.
The ambiance is cozy and chic; with plants surrounding the windows and a low lit dining area combined with eclectic decor, this restaurant is the perfect place for a relaxing date night or a classy evening with friends over cocktails.
We will definitely be returning to try everything else on the menu. Thanks again, Emily and Nicole!
Eggplant- I love the peanut and cilantro on top nice crunch and herb freshness. Asian sauce adds the right flavor to eggplant because in my opinion eggplant isn’t tasty so you need to add a punch flavor and this was the right miso. At home I would ditch the miso to be healthier. Nice portion and menu idea. Not for everyone but I’d order it again.
Roast beef sandwich- deliciously tender/perfect true roast beef taste with a generous gravy au jus, horseradish butter and soft bun. The butter looks like milk but it’s great accompaniment. Bottom bun gets soggy and could be toasted or braced with lettuce or onion. I know a true roast beef sandwich is just beef & bread tho. Two crispy onion rings would go hard on the side. I’d order again. Not sold everyday I don’t think.
Fish with Gumbo-Sunday Special. Real deal shellfish taste. Has chicken, okra, rice, sliced shrimp, and crispy southern fried fish. Lovely. Should have more rice. $28 is fair for this masterpiece. I’d order the same three dishes again. Want to try the wings, salads and any daily special they’re advertising.
The attaboy drink was very strong, kinda syrupy. Too thick for me. Old-fashioned was good.
Fish tray with hush puppies, collards, and Black Eyed Peas was utterly amazing and great value. Wings really Great with unique homemade cowboy sauce dip.
Pecan pie was great, but I wish it was served warm.. Love the date and chill vibes, plants, decor, service, great restroom (only one), chef inspired menu. Added this place to our favorites.
When we arrived around 9PM, we walked in to an empty dining room with a full bar. It took a minute to get noticed when we walked in the door, but we were told to sit anywhere we’d like by the bartender (completely fine, I understand he was busy). The sole server on the floor emerged from the bathroom a minute later and proceeded to not say hello or introduce herself, just asked how many people were in our party because we were sitting at a large table. She did not communicate any specials, give recommendations, or provide detail about ANYTHING on the menu the entire night. There was a very clear lack of enthusiasm and hospitality from the jump. You could tell she really did not want to be there. Keep in mind, the dining room was completely empty so we were her only table. One of the first things out of her mouth was a very blunt “We’re out of prime rib”, cutting off my boyfriend when he said he had a question about the menu. He was only asking what their drink of the day was.
We ordered one drink each and the french onion soup. My boyfriend’s drink was good, he ordered a cocktail directly off the menu. I ordered an Amaretto sour which wasn’t on the menu. It came out looking very Aperol Spritz-like in a glass with the Italian flag on it. The scent and taste of Aperol was very noticeable in the drink and it was bubbly like a spritz. When I inquired with our server, assuming it was a simple mix-up or miscommunication, she told me “that’s how we do our Amaretto sours” and walked away, not giving me any further details or explanation on what was in my drink. The way she answered was so bizarre and lacking of detail it almost made me not believe her and think that my order got screwed up and she just didn’t want to own up to it. While the drink wasn’t bad, (and I certainly have no issue with the fact that they do their own spin on classic cocktails), a simple heads up when I ordered would’ve been appreciated so I could’ve known what I was getting.
Most of our time there she spent leaning on the bar scrolling social media on her phone with her back towards us, and straight up ignored us a few times when we tried to wave her down for further questions about the menu. That’s when we decided to leave and go somewhere else to salvage the night.
While our drinks and food were acceptable, our service was TERRIBLE and super disappointing for a restaurant on the Michelin Guide. We had been looking forward to dining here for months and saved our visit for a special occasion that was soured by her lack of care and attentiveness. We will be back eventually for a second try with a new server, however, our service last night really dampened our desire to return any time soon. She ruined our first impression on what we thought was going to be an amazing restaurant.
We sat at the bar and had an unbelievable fresh melon salad, a squash and vidalia onion casserole (it looked like a vol au vent and was deliciously light, yet flavorful, fresh and rich at the same time).
We also had the creamed field peas with dill – and what a delicious combo of flavors- almost like having just caught wild trout (no fish flavors just conceptually) !
Lastly, we had the roasted eggplant with peanuts, miso and herbs- it was divine and tasted like a fresh black cod (texture-wise, again no fish flavors) with roasted bananas.
Wines were totally unique and delicious: we had Helena- a white falanghina varietal, and we followed it with a Rioja Altanza reserva.
An extraordinary and unexpected experience. Plus: great value for money and a super cool crowd. We will be coming back here regularly … at least weekly!
It was set in candle light type of lighting. Please check the menu for selections on the day you plan to visit.
Atmosphere was fantastic and a very well done interior.
