The BBQ and sides were as good as any I have ever had–but the brisket-WOW. Owner and staff are super friendly, prices great. We love BBQ places with counter service and a few picnic tables to enjoy the food–and this place is exactly that–nothing ostentatious. It is in the Farmer’s Market, and there are also tiki’s where you can eat and enjoy live music and your wife can hunt for bargains among the vendors.

Great vibes at Wholly Cow. The owner was here both times we stopped by and his staff are super friendly and kind. Best bbq in town honestly. The meat is tender, has good flavor and falls off the bone. It’s worth trying out and I bet it won’t disappoint. They even have a great selection of local, craft, import and domestic beers and other beverages. Next door, they sell fresh made dog food with all natural meats and vegetables, called Farm Fresh. We gave it a try and bought a few pints at a good price and our dog absolutely loves it over her own dry dog food. Happy to support a local spot like this and give them the business over chains, and you should too when they’re friendly and provide good service.

Got the beef ribs a.k.a the “dino bones”. Not cheap, it’s like $50-$60 per bone. And NOT worth it.

I hate to be honest, but it looked a lot better than it tasted. Was moist, had good bark and smoke ring… but NO flavor. I was incredibly disappointed with how bland it was… even the beef flavor was lacking because there wasn’t enough salt. I had to overcompensate with their BBQ sauce, which is OK. Nothing special but not bad.

If you want ribs, their pork is much better.

Best brisket I’ve had in this area. Only open on the weekends but I just talked to the owner and heard they are opening up a food cart here soon. Definitely not cheap, going to run about $25 a person but it’s so worth it. Sides are okay but the meat itself is so good.

This spot is located in Yellow Green Farmers Market, open Saturday and Sunday. I had the brisket sandwich, which was really good. It comes on pretzel bun with two sauces (tangy bbq and a spicy sauce) and coleslaw. I originally wasn’t crazy about the tangy sauce, but it pairs well with the brisket. The brisket itself was juicy and savory.

The price of the sandwich was up there. I paid 26 dollars total (this also included the tip. The service was quick and friendly). Overall, it was a good bite that legitimately had me full for the rest of the day.

Fun spot. I am a self-proclaimed brisket connoisseur having tried 39 of the top 50 barbecues in the great state of Texas. The brisket at Wholly Cow ranks in my top 5. Got to talk to the team at the smokers out back and it’s satisfying to hear their passion for the SPORT of barbecue. We will be back!

Better than Franklin BBQ in Austin – hands down. My husband worked at Franklin for years and I had it many many times. I grew up in Memphis and have had some pretty damn good BBQ over the years. This brisket gets my five stars every time. Without reservation, my favorite. If you’re at yellow and green farmers market, or within a 35 mile radius – do yourself a favor and eat here.

First time at the Yellow Green Market but passed through the Wholly stall and the brisket looked so shiny that i had to come back and try it.
They have great menu options and meat options to try.
If you want something small do what i did, i got the Brisket n Cheese Arepa and wow!
It is stuffed!!
Brisket it’s nice and smoky but not overpowering, tender, juicy and good fat balance. The arepa was slightly crunchy and soft not doughy which is good. But the sauce was amazing, the vinegar and acidity in the sauce complements the fatty meat greatly.

It’s a must try place here.
Service was nice and quick too.
