Ok. Everything was delicious here! They had the best baked beans and coconut pie! This restaurant beats all the other ones in Des Moines! Definitely check them out when you drive by

Great place to go if you’re hungry, you won’t leave that way. The tenderloin is meaty and good sized. I ask them to make mine up like a chicken fried steak and they oblige happily.

I’m so sorry I didn’t even think to get pictures, but here are the leftovers brought home (yes it’s alot, and I came home full). The atmosphere was genuine down home feeling. Which I love and appreciate. The menu was easy to read and understand. The menu on Facebook is nice to know what they serve before you decide to go or check it out (especially if you’ve never been, this was our first time). The food was absolutely amazing on flavor, and portions for price….crazy reasonable!!! Seriously, if you haven’t been, my only advice is GO. You truly won’t be sorry. Oh, and service, done by the best server ever. Super friendly, didn’t hover, and just knew the right moments to check on us.
Thank you White Oak Grill, LLC and Madison, we’ll be back

Average food, typical Iowa “we have nothing healthy here” food. Server didn’t care for my specific questions regarding food prep. Barbecue not bad, the brisket was dry.

Great food and great service. I had BLT, it was very good. The serving size was enough for 2 people. The staff was very friendly and the cafe was very clean.

A family owned and operated country cafe & store. Run mainly by the family with a little hired help you will find what you’re looking for during the weekdays for breakfast or lunch. The real supper deal start Friday night and Saturday with Steaks and the works. They make their pies in house, smoke the meats and serve great treats. While off the beaten path in Exline, IA (Caldwell) you won’t find a friendlier family to eat a great meal with!

Very good old school diner. Just a note, no alcohol is served here. We ordered the poutine appetizer which may have been a limited time special but it was very good. It was crinkle cut fries, cheese curds and topped with a brown gravy (delicious).

For dinner our group ordered a couple of the tenderloin sandwiches (pictured attached). They were massive and nicely crispy. Another person got the chicken fried chicken and loved it. And someone else in our group ordered the chicken fried steak and liked it. I would highly highly recommend the BBQ beans side. They were some of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly smokey, lots of bacon and some sauted onion (they were just as good the next day leftover).

Spent a lovely day in the area and was driven to the door of the White Oak Grille by a local patron who gave me no choice to grab a bite there before my 6 hour drive home. The prices were less than half of what I usually spend eating out, so I do very little. I made mention of this to the lovely gals working and I was a little surprised to hear that they actually received complaints on the pricing from the locals. Shame! Come to my neck of the woods and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a burger and fries that isn’t nearly $20. The Grinder was an unusual choice for me, but a welcome departure from burgers. I also grabbed a slice of peach pie (clear gel wasn’t my thing, but I devoured it no less) and I had to get a pound of brisket to go. I tried a couple pieces on my way home and knew I was in for a treat today. It made the BEST brisket Mac and Cheese. Thank you! If nothing else, my all-day road trip my was worthwhile thanks to this lovely little restaurant.

Cherish and support it. My time there was brief, but I could tell it’s a truly special little place.
