I love stopping in here, I love the candles they have and I love their delicious food. Ice had many different things here and most of them I really loved. I also have an aunt that is diabetic so some of the things from here are things she can enjoy. I had this soft special cookie with my evening tea. And the cider donuts are for my aunt

They don’t write which “vegan” items contain honey on the labels.

Both of the bars they make in-house seem to have honey, but they indicated this on only one of the labels. They claim that they ask all vegans if they eat honey instead of being honest/clear on their labels (i know you know how frustrating that is to be asked. And then having to remember what not to order instead of having a visual indicator without needing the interaction. And what about vegans that don’t say they’re vegan and just order an item without chatting?) I let her know about the term “beegan” and then she rudely told me that 80% of the vegans that come in eat honey. (Words have specific definitions. So frustrating. Like the “vegetarians” that eat fish diluting the meaning of the word.)

Anyway, the layered bars that are perfectly square are just Nat’s raw bars that they buy direct and sell. The pies and other bars appear to be made in-house. Everything is made with almonds, just in case you’re limiting your oxalates or are allergic.

I already know what nat’s raw bars taste like, so I got a slice of cheesecake. She said it’s cashew based.

It’s pretty standard vegan cheesecake. The piped edge seems to be a whipped topping. (Maybe coconut) the crust got soggy. (We had a 30 minute drive and then put it in the fridge for a few hours when we got back.) it was a bit too soft after the drive, but then maybe a little too firm straight out of the fridge. Would probably be best with a 10-15 minute room temp warm-up.

White Lion is among the best gluten free bakeries in the country, period. There is another great one also from Massachusetts who I am sure is a direct competitor, many of you know who I am referring to. White Lion has become a staple for me especially during the holidays. Every year I order a GF/DF quiche to enjoy for my end of year vacation, and it makes me SO happy! I am ashamed to admit I did not take any photos, sometimes with really good GF food I get so excited to eat I forget to catch the moment! There are so many great items at White Lion but the items I enjoy most are the pies, the muffins, the quiche of course, the challah bread is fantastic! I ordered a bunch of those, and I freeze them to enjoy later. Every time I am down the Cape I make it a point to visit White Lion and every year at the holidays I order from White Lion to make my holidays complete. They have a 2nd location in Newton for those times where an item can’t be shipped but I can’t drive all the way down the Cape (I am in southern NH), so Newton (Waban) is somewhat convenient for that but my hope is someday White Lion can grow and have an even closer location to me, but that might be wishful thinking on my part! 🙂 If you need to eat GF or DF or both don’t miss out on giving White Lion a try at either location.

I have Celiac disease and this bakery is 100 percent gluten free. I mostly enjoy the cheese cake and the carrot cake. The gluten free ravioli is pretty tasty. The owner is SUPER friendly and efficient. I recommend this bakery. It is a vegans and Celiacs dream. I always feel like I am loved and special, like someone baked something just for me when I go into White Lion.

I was visiting from Colorado and introduced to this bakery and it’s absolutely amazing! I have had celiac for over 20 years and I’ve tried to find bakeries across the world that accommodate.

The donuts are beyond a doubt the best gluten free ones I’ve ever had. The quiche, GF sandwich and everything I’ve had is a solid 5/5.

The staff is super knowledgeable and kind, the atmosphere is great. I will be sad to leave but eager to come visit again.

I had to add pictures of the GF rosemary focaccia bread with pesto, tomato and mozzarella. It was delicious!

My daughter has celiac so we travel looking for gluten-free options. We tried a few items: cupcakes, cheese cake, chocolate cream pie. I must say the strawberry frosting is the best creamiest I’ve ever had! The chocolate and cream topping was so fluffy, finally the cheese cake looked and tasted amazing. The only thing I didn’t like was: the grainy coconut flour texture in all the baked goods. It worked well for cheesecake but felt heavy in cupcake. While I enjoyed every piece of baked item, I’m still trying to convince my teen daughter gluten-free doesn’t have to taste different, so I will try again to see if they have perfected their goods.

The best gluten free/paleo bakery! High quality ingredients, fresh, and delicious! I always make sure to get some mini cheesecakes, veggie quiche, or the hand made cookies! You can’t go wrong with anything here! My boyfriends mom is gluten free and this is the only place I go to for all her sweet treats! They also offer vegan and dairy free options which is amazing.

I ordered a cake for Mother’s day, along with some foccacia, and I couldn’t have been happier with the delicious goodies me and my mom got!

I want to say I get myself little treats from bakeries every so often; I walk a lot, and one of my motivators is reaching bakers (whatever gets you moving, right??), so I want to be clear I’m familiar with the quality of other local baked goods on the cape, and in the area. And I must say: I wish the White Lion was within walking distance of me, I’d be going there way more often!

The cake I got my mom was divine; it was chocolate with a chocolate mousse(?) filling and buttercream frosting, and it was to die for! The cake was soft, the mousse was silky and tasted both chocolatey yet different from the chocolate cake parts, making the taste throughout interesting and never “too chocolatey”, and the buttercream frosting was thick and wonderful! The berries were fresh and flowers beautiful.

Additionally, the focaccia was fluffy and nice! I didn’t get a picture, I devoured it too quickly.

While in the bakery, the baker was friendly and passionate, telling me about various goodies there and the specific place the flowers for Mother’s Day come from. I was happy to hear all of this. Her information led to me trying out a few muffins (I forget the name, but they were paleo or protein related ones), and they were soo good! It’s clear the baker know to balance decadence and health.

Honestly, I think this is a great bakery regardless of your dietary needs. Definitely check it out!

I also want to add: I’m a bariatric patient, and if I eat a lot of sugar at once, it can make me sick. Sometimes a smoothie can be a bit much for me, and usually when I’m at parties, I have very thin slices of cake. I’m not sure on all the ingredients used, but this cake gave me no poor reaction to its sweetness, even when my mom cut me a very very thick slice. I think if you’re a bariatric patient (or know one) and are at the stage where you’re ready for regular foods, and looking for the right place to get something for a special occasion, that this bakery is worth giving a try 🙂

Next time I’m in the area, I’m definitely stopping by again. I hope that chance comes sooner than later!

White Lion Baking Company started out as a small, household business that has grown into a physical commercial space, and retail goods in multiple health food stores across the region, including Providence and Boston.

The reason for it’s growth, and the hard work they had to go through to get there, is that it is one of a handful of bakeries that offer gluten-free and grain-free baked goods. There are people out there who used to be able to eat things before their immune systems started going crazy when digesting certain foods, White Lion Baking Company makes foods that these people can cherish eating again. This freedom to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie is what keeps people coming back, and the use of healthier ingredients when compared to traditional ingredients.

There are some baked goods that use dairy, and others that do not. Be aware that while most of the ingredients could be grain-free, and considered paleo, there may be separate ingredients that may contain cane sugar. This is infrequent, though.

If you know of someone who seems to have a ton of food allergies, please ask them if they have heard of White Lion. Besides of a bakery in Providence, there are very few places out there where some foodies can truly eat freely. Also, they serve hot and/or cold coffee, which goes great with any baked good!
