Visited around 6pm and had a really positive experience. The atmosphere was lively but comfortable, and the service was excellent, polite, helpful and attentive throughout.
We ordered the crab & lobster toast, which was very tasty and one of my favourite dishes flavour-wise, though I would have preferred a bit more crab/lobster and slightly more aioli.
The octopus with romesco was beautifully cooked, and the coconut hake was a pleasant surprise — different to what I’m used to, but it worked really well.
The mussels were good overall, although a few clams still had some sand in them.
The absolute highlight was the lemon tart, so good I ordered it twice. Easily one of the best desserts I had in Edinburgh which deserves special mention to the chef who made this.
The bill came to around £120. I appreciated that they don’t automatically add service charge — we happily tipped, bringing it to around £130.
Overall, a very enjoyable seafood dinner with great service and a standout dessert.
I would definitely return on future trips to Edinburgh.

5 star to Hubert. Amazing service. Arrived for my 30th bday and recieved complimentary drinks. Lovely recommended cocktails. Ordered the full seafood platter. Yum! Also some small platters = yum! Left nice and full and tipsy. Bill was as expected for a fresh sea food experience. Music on point had a little giggle as I was digging into to my selfish.

Cute little seafood restaurant. The staff were very friendly and they have a very good selection of sea food. My friend really enjoyed their oysters while my apple tart was a perfect dessert!

Absolutely loved this place. Hubert was my waiter and he was very friendly and professional. Oysters were amazing. Personally I found the Scottish and Irish oysters the best. Also tried the scotch crab egg. Highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys seafood!

White Horse is a must-visit for any seafood lover in Edinburgh. Located right on the historic Royal Mile, it manages to avoid the “tourist trap” feel and delivers truly world-class quality.
The highlight of our meal was definitely the Seafood Platter. The freshness was incredible—you can really taste the ocean in every bite. Everything was perfectly prepared, from the oysters to the shellfish. It’s a generous, beautifully presented spread that is perfect for sharing with friends.
The atmosphere is stylish yet cozy, with a great selection of drinks that pair perfectly with the seafood. The service was also prompt and professional, making the whole experience feel very seamless. If you want to indulge in high-quality, local Scottish seafood in a cool setting, this is the place. Highly recommended!

We went on our last night, but if I were in Edinburgh longer, I’d eat there again! Very friendly service, nice atmosphere. Food was delicious!! We ordered 4 small plates for two of us. We each had two drinks so that added to a bit higher check but plates were reasonably priced. Definitely get the bread if you order the mussels and clams for dunking in the yummy broth! We ordered the shrimp toast, beef and tempura oysters, mussels and clams – all were good but the monkfish in peanut sauce was exceptional!! I’d go back just for that!! Wish they weren’t across the pond! I’d eat there often!

The best oysters I have ever had in my life. The monkfish and the cod were outstanding — especially the cod in the milk butter sauce.

We were served by Hubert, who was exceptionally kind, helpful, and professional. An absolute must-visit in Edinburgh.

Wow, what a find. Doesn’t look much from the outside and hadn’t pre-booked but on arrival we were welcomed by the friendly staff and escorted to our own booth.
Its mainly an oyster bar but we went in for the seafood. They serve tapas style dishes where you can order a few plates depending on how hungry you are. We had crab scotch egg, hake ceviche and monkfish satay. The fish was so fresh and the flavours of each dish were completely different to each other and very tasty.
We finished with some hebridean blue cheese instead of a dessert. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

We were blown away by the food here! Coming from NYC and being a huge foodie I could not have asked for a better first meal here in Edinburgh. Special thanks to Hubert for his kindness and recommendations and to the very kind bartender. If we find ourselves in Edinburgh again we will be coming back and recommending to our friends and family!
