Last Man Standing
A decent lil dive bar for holding church on Sunday…. Golden tee, pool, darts. When the afternoon bartender showed up I wanted to get one last shot before we hit the road then ask her what her birthday was. I’d already asked everyone in the bar. It’s kind of my thing, I’m aware that’s strange lol
I did not even get that far. I’d ask my friend what her name was so I could call her by name instead of saying hey bartender cuz that always feels rude.
I said “hey Jody!”
She turned from talking to another patron and looked me dead in the eyes & said, “I’m having a private conversation right now”
To which I asked if that wasn’t maybe something you should do when you’re not who work.
She really didn’t like that. That’s when she told me she thought I’d had enough to drink. It doesn’t bother me that she kicked me out….we were literally cashing out when she showed up
However, I stand by my statement. I don’t care what your job is… On the clock is not the time for personal conversation. I can’t speak for anyone else but I take pride in work that I do. I would never prioritize my personal life over my customers while I’m at work.
Go here or don’t. If you’re looking for good food, go down the street to Leroy’s hot stuff or right next door even to the Village. But if you do decide to go here… For goodness sake – apologize as you interrupt any personal conversations that the employees might be having!! ♂️

Wow the food was terrific. A little pricey- so be prepared if it’s your first time here.

Stopped in for the first time the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, food menu was limited to just hot dogs and home made chips, both pretty good actually. Great bar tender and at least that night not packed, but enough people to still feel like your out. I was a bit skeptical before I walked in but this turned out to be a great spot. I’ll be back, looking forward to trying the full menu.

VERY VERY HOT in there last night, I hear they have air conditioning but it was not on. We sat in front of a fan, which helped a little. The French fries are Amazing! Seasoned perfectly like nothing I’ve ever had! Wings were very tasty too. Beautiful bar with wood paneling. And big tvs

Six out of seven bartenders at this establishment are absolutely fantastic — friendly, attentive, and professional. Unfortunately, one bartender (who also appears to be a manager) consistently brings down the atmosphere with her attitude. She comes across as rude and entitled, with poor customer service skills and little sense of professionalism. It’s disappointing because the rest of the staff create such a great experience.

I haven’t eaten before. But they can sling drinks like nobody’s business! This place is another treasure of Porter’s Historical Railroad Town. So, the atmosphere is old but taken care of well enough to provide a couple of pool tables and dining tables and a beautiful old bar!

Walked into Zorn Brewery around 8:12pm kitchen was closed, but we asked about the “new” kitchen at the whistle stop. One of the bartenders sitting at the zorn bar called the head chef Ricardo at the whistle stop to ask what time the kitchen closed. Ricardo told him 9pm. We left zorn and made it to the whistle stop @ 8:33pm to be told the kitchen is closed. Had Ricardo just told the guy calling on the phone they were closing, cool! Not a huge deal, annoying because we drove there just for the food.
Val was the bartender. She was really nice and apologetic. Please advertise or at least tell people the truth on your closing time when they’re calling to inquire. It’s pretty crappy to get a call, say one thing, and then you close the kitchen knowing someone was on the way.

Found this little place while doing a girls getaway to Kimel Beach. We had a blast! They had live entertainment that was awesome and the drinks also reasonably priced. Friendly bartenders and locals. The plan was to hit all the local bars but it changed once we got to the Whistle Stop! Thank you for giving us some great memories!
