This was a high end but unfussy dining experience. We enjoyed our appetizers. Mine: an arugula salad with goat cheese, golden and red beets and walnut vinaigrette. His: ancho grilled jumbo shrimp with a lemon basil aioli drizzle. We enjoyed our entrees. Mine: Maine lobster tail and claw meat over a crab cake in a spring roll basket, which was delicious. The tail was slightly tough at one end, but it was easily cut with a knife and fork. His: grilled filet mignon, frites and creamed spinach with bacon. He said he would have liked less pink as it was closer to rare than the medium he ordered. That being said, he said it was delicious. Dessert we both selected was a precious Valentine-themed vanilla ice cream filled white chocolate heart with a smaller, pink white chocolate raspberry coulis-filled heart on top. There was a berry jam reduction and chocolate sauce plating. This prix fixe menu was enjoyed by both of us, and our service was wonderful, with Meredith, I believe. We brought our own wine as it was bring your own.

We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant, but unfortunately our New Year’s Eve experience was a major disappointment.

We booked the NYE prix fixe menu, which was grossly overpriced for the quality delivered. To start, the menu posted online did not match what we were given at the table. If you had chosen this restaurant anticipating specific dishes—like the Chilean sea bass—you would have been disappointed before the meal even began.

The food itself lacked quality across the board. The fried calamari was clearly frozen and indistinguishable from what you’d get at a chain restaurant. I ordered the lobster entrée; the presentation was beautiful and gave me hope, but that quickly faded. The first two bites were decent, then the texture became so tough I needed a steak knife to cut the tail. The lobster was essentially inedible—I ended up swallowing pieces whole because I couldn’t chew them.

My spouse’s rack of lamb was similarly underwhelming, lacking both flavor and freshness. Dessert was the low point. The chocolate mousse tasted far from fresh, and my peach sorbet was served as three lonely scoops rolling around on an oversized plate. Ironically, the sorbet was probably the safest choice—frozen, pre-packaged dessert is hard to mess up.

The only positives of the evening were the dinner roll (despite what some other reviews say) and the decaf coffee.

Overall, this was a very expensive meal that fell short in execution, quality, and consistency. We left frustrated and disappointed, especially given the occasion.

Not perfect, but definitely top shelf. Food quality was superb, although portions are on the average or small side. Avoid the scallops & fig appetizer, the scallops were mushy and drenched in a gooey sauce. The pesto fettuccine with shrimp was incredible and a food highlight of our trip. Butter pecan gelato for dessert was also excellent.

Service is very professional, friendly and attentive. It’s BYOB, and the staff handles all uncorking, putting the bottles on ice, etc.

There are two rooms and the smaller room is typically quieter but both can get extremely busy and noisy when there are large parties seated. If one gets unbearable, try the other if there is space.

A definite foodie highlight in Spring Lake. Expensive, but recommended if you can splurge.

I have been going to whispers about once a season for probably 5 years now. It used to be a special place with great service and food. However over the last few years I have noticed a massive drop off in the quality of the food, pricing and ownership (the service is still very good and that is helping stop the bleeding). But the drop in the quality of the food in combination with the increased pricing has totally removed the how special this place use to be. The last straw was getting charged for small, average rolls. When you pay $60 or more for an entry you can give a customer a roll. Stop with the penny pinching. Additionally the owner seems more preoccupied with his real estate business. I spoke to him briefly at my last meal (late June) and all he talked about was local and Fla real estate. I was thinking if you were this interested in the restaurant and food quality the place would still be very good. But that is no longer the case. I give this place two more seasons at best. People are seeing the drop off.

One of our favorite restaurants. We have been here so many times throughout the 30 years that they’ve been a restaurant. The main reason we love this restaurant is how quiet it is. The carpeting really helps keep the conversation noise down. It’s extremely romantic and worth going to on a special date. Nicholas, the owner is always so friendly. This year they sent me an email and because of that we made Thanksgiving reservations there. I have never had such moist and delicious turkey ever. Everything was fantastic! Matt, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. We even had a high school graduation party here. They also have a private room for private parties. Parking is easy in the street. The decor is really beautiful. Most of the tables are for two people, 4 people maximum. It’s a very small dining room which is why we love it so much.

I was traveling in from a long work week when I stopped to stay at the Hewitt-Wellington which shares a partnering location. I didn’t feel like dining out after such long travel, so I called the manager, Nick. He was so kind, going out of his way to make sure I had a lovely dish of flounder fish and lobster chowder, ready to carry up to my room. We had a lovely conversation about the area while I waited for Matt to prepare everything. Marilyn, was so sweet to help me carry the tray. The food is always superb. The rolls are my favorite, very unique. I appreciate their kindness and extra care they took.

Whispers is an elegant byob restaurant located in the Hewitt Wellington Hotel in Spring Lake. It’s the perfect place for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special occasion. Portions are on the small side, and that would stop me from becoming a regular. But, I’d definitely come dine here again! They start you with a fresh hot roll which was good, but I was expecting a restaurant of this caliber to have a few different kinds of bread to choose from. They also give you a complimentary tasting before your appetizer. Today’s tasting was a cucumber topped with a salmon mousse which was also good. For appetizer I had the lobster ravioli topped with a butternut squash purée which was $20. I thought it was too small of an appetizer for the price point. It was good, but I didn’t think it was excellent as it should of been. It needed more of a butternut squash flavor as it was described. My entree which was the 1.5 pound lobster over a crab cake in a wonton served over mashed potatoes was EXCELLENT! I highly recommend ordering it! For dessert I had the chocolate ganache cake which was very good, but very small! I had two rolls otherwise I would of left hungry. I don’t mind paying high prices just want to be served a bit more generous portions, and get my money’s worth. My server Taylor was wonderful! I definitely recommend dining here if your looking for that special place to celebrate a special occasion or just looking for a romantic dinner!

Always great. Slightly formal setting for the area. The lobster crepe appetizer never disappoints and the lobster buere blanc is worth the trip!

Great place to eat up while you down some brown liquor (it’s byob). Contrary to the name, you actually *don’t* have to whisper. And the lobster doesn’t come with a shell, so you don’t have to wear those embarassing bibs or fuss around with crackers. Great experience, getting my pals and coming back next week!

We dined here with a group of friends, and unfortunately, the experience fell short across the board. The appetizers were just boring. They lacked imagination in both flavor and presentation, setting a disappointing tone for the evening. Things didn’t improve with the mains— tasted uneven, with some components overcooked and others underdone. At an average price point of $65 per entrée, we expected much better execution.

Desserts were overly sweet, and the crème brûlée was especially underwhelming—chilled and missing its signature caramelized top, it tasted more like a refrigerated pudding than a delicacy.

Service was equally inconsistent. Our waitress didn’t replenish water or wine after the initial pour, and surprisingly interrupted a heartfelt toast with an untimely offer for dessert. In a setting that claims fine-dining standards, attention to social cues and ambiance is essential—and here, it was noticeably lacking.

Overall, far from a fine-dining destination they claim to be.
