There’s nothing better on a chilly December night than some comfort food and Wheat & Rye’s weekly meatloaf special hit the spot. For $8.95, you get two nice-sized and flavorful pieces of meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, mac & cheese, and a soft dinner roll. The platter came out hot and none of the items were salty or overseasoned. Cierra was my server and she was extremely attentive and pleasant for the entire time I was there. The only downside to the entire experience was seeing so many empty seats. For those who complain that dining out is too expensive or they have “been everywhere,” you really need to check out Wheat & Rye. You won’t be disappointed.

I visited Wheat & Rye in Allen Park once before during the pandemic when it was pretty empty, but today was a whole different scene—it was packed! We waited about 45 minutes for our plates, as there were only two servers working the entire restaurant during happy hour, along with two ladies behind the bar. Despite the wait, the food did not disappoint! I ordered the meatloaf special for $8.95, and the portions were absolutely massive—enough for at least three meals. Definitely great value for the price, just be prepared for a longer wait if it’s busy.

Was recommended this place by a guy in the airport. Got there and was kinda iffy you seat yourself and the waitress came and took our order 20min later our food comes and man was i blown away I ordered the turkey club had i know it was massive in size I probably wouldn’t have ordered shrimp and fish lord Jesus!! Food hit harder than a car accident! Ask for Cierra she was doing everything but cooking the food ❤️ thanks for making us Philly folk feel comfortable.

We arrived, they were very busy. No, we did not have to wait to be seated because they are seat yourself. The atmosphere was very honetoen pkeasant. Our server Searra was friendly and efficient. The Fat City burger smothered in chili, cheese, chopped vegetables sitting on a plate of corn chips was as delicious as I remember it from the 90s. The Philly steak and cheese sandwich was huge but a bit dry. All and all a great experience. Thank you

After seeing the advertisement on Facebook and seeing how good the meatloaf and macaroni and cheese looked, being in the mood for that kind of food, we decided to go there and try it. I was very disappointed to find out that they only have those kinds of dinners on certain days. Since it was raining out, we decided to stay and eat a sandwich. There’s nothing worse than waiting all day to eat something you love, driving all the way there, and having to settle for a sandwich. I ended up ordering the chicken pesto sandwich which comes with fries, a pickle, and coleslaw. Trying to eat low carb, it made it difficult since we couldn’t substitute the fries for a house salad (even though they are the same price). We waited quite a while to get the food, but it arrived hot and fresh. The Pepsi had no carbonation in it, so they brought a Sprite (which was also flat). The strawberry cheesecake was good but almost burned on the bottom. I’m a once and done customer. I wish I would’ve had a better experience, especially since we payed almost $50 for 2 sandwiches, a soda, and a piece of cheesecake. Bummer!

My wife and I shared the Polish Combo, I also ordered the French Onion soup, the soup was the best I have ever had, it was loaded with cheese and the combo was fantastic!
Update – January 22, 2025, stopped in for dinner, I ordered the Macho Nacho, my wife ordered the Spinach Ravioli and a friend ordered Spaghetti, all were excellent!
Our Server Katie was extremely friendly and “Katie-on-the-spot”, too!
Update – February 25, 2025, had the Meat Loaf special for lunch, it was excellent. Never a bad meal.

Wow. What a hidden gem. Looks like an old school dive bar inside. ANYTHING. BUT. Good (comfort) food. In order of most awesome to least awesome: French Onion soup, 12 ounce NY strip, potato skins. The worst of those (skins) was still quite good. The vet selection could have been better, but I’m a professed be snob. All that said EMILY. HOLY. CRAP. EMILY. was amazing. I would give service 8 stars if I could. Go here. You won’t be disappointed unless you are the snobbiest of snobs.

Clean and casual atmosphere. Let’s talk about the food. I could sum it up by saying “BEST Bar food ever”, but let me give you the delectable details of this food adventure. Two mouths shared 1 Giant Rueben and order of poutine and an order of fried mushrooms. We ate ourselves into a food coma and still had a full carry out box to bring home. Highlighting: The corned beef is homemade and it is absolutely tender and delish. No fat! Then, the poutine was a platter. We ate the whole dang thing. 🙂 Now… the full basket of fried mushrooms was hands down, the best fried mushrooms we have ever had – even homemade. The outside was crispy. The sauce was perfect. The mushrooms were super juicy. Our waitress Emily was patient, helpful, sweet and attentive. This was a fun night and definitely worth every bite. We will be back, often! (PS I never got a picture of the full basket of mushrooms because we had them half eaten when I started snapping pics.)

Let’s start with the food. I was very disappointed with the macho nachos. The chili was clearly canned and was almost a paste. A million chips and very little toppings. The Cajun burger was a burger with Cajun seasonings added.
The broiled salmon dinner was good. The prime rib was the best dish of the night. I was a little disappointed that we were only brought one pitcher of Coke with ice for refills because we all had the same drinks. It was brought before the food. Was watery and flat for the refills. We did use it all and were not offered more. The picture is of the first drink. Not the refill. We had a long wait between ordering and the foods arrival. It was busy at the time so that is to be expected. However I was not feeling well after eating. Neither was the person that ate the Cajun burger. Our waitress was very nice. Just lacking on her refill service. It was a little pricey as well. I probably will not return.
