

Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we’re still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.

While waiting professionally and quietly for an order, a loud and racially offensive comment was spoken within the restaurant. The comment included a racial reference directed toward Black people and was said loudly enough that multiple employees and customers stopped and looked toward me, including staff coming out of the kitchen area.
I was extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable, but I remained calm and professional. I did not confront anyone at the time because I had already dealt with a very stressful week and simply wanted to complete my pickup and leave without escalation.
What made this situation more upsetting is that another Black customer entered the restaurant shortly after, and nothing was said to them. The incident was directed toward me specifically, which made me feel targeted and singled out.
I have been picking up orders in this area since 2024, including at this location, and I have never experienced anything like this before. This incident was shocking, humiliating, and completely unacceptable.
If there is audio and video footage available, I respectfully request that it be reviewed to confirm what occurred. The incident should be clearly visible and audible on your security system.
No customer or delivery driver should feel degraded, embarrassed, or targeted while simply doing their job.
The drive thru staff is the best I have ever met. The manager is doing an amazing job.
