Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we’re still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.

We don’t have Whataburger in South Florida, so we weren’t familiar with it, but at that hour we were willing to eat just about anything. We pulled into the drive-thru and were greeted by a friendly, clear, and genuinely welcoming voice—at 2:30 a.m. no less. Toto, we’re definitely not in South Florida anymore.
We grabbed our food, checked into the hotel, and were pleasantly surprised. Everything was hot and fresh—and that spicy ketchup? Absolute game changer.
The next day, while my husband was at a conference, hunger struck again. I walked over to the Whataburger across the street and ordered inside. One woman was running the show—taking orders, handing out to-go bags, cleaning, and restocking drinks—all with a polite and upbeat attitude.
I dined in and somehow the food was even better than the night before: a spicy chicken sandwich, fries (again with that spicy ketchup), and a strawberry shake. Easily better quality than most fast-food places I’ve tried. Highly recommend.

Sure hate to post this, and it has never happened before, but the service I just got at this location was absolutely terrible! There was confusion on our order when I pulled up to the drive through line and I didn’t hear the person at the window completely. When she handed me our meal, it was a cobb salad that we didn’t order. I simply told her this isn’t ours and she snapped at me and said I told her yes. Her customer service was completely out of line! I work in customer service. I know the difference and why she did what she did, the way she did was extremely poor!
Whataburger, once a beloved Texas staple, has seen a significant decline in quality and service across many of its locations. Customers consistently report dry, flavorless burgers, limp vegetables, and stale buns, with combo meals now costing upwards of $12—despite noticeably smaller portions. Frequent price hikes have only added to the frustration, especially as food quality continues to deteriorate.
Order accuracy is a recurring issue, with many patrons receiving incorrect or incomplete meals. Long wait times are common, often exacerbated by kitchen staff who appear more focused on socializing than serving customers. Cleanliness is another major concern, with reports of filthy dining areas and restrooms, even as employees are seen lounging and eating in plain view. I have personally suffered food poisoning on multiple occasions after eating at the North Plano, Hwy 75 and Parker Location!
Morning visits are particularly disappointing, with hot coffee often unavailable until a customer complains. Some management staff appear untrained or unable to operate the registers, leading to further delays and confusion. The overall atmosphere is typically one of disorganization and indifference.
In one particularly troubling incident, I was banned from a North Plano location by the store manager after filing a complaint about her behavior—an unprofessional and retaliatory act that speaks volumes about the current state of leadership at some locations.
Whataburger’s decline in food quality, service standards, and operational integrity has left many longtime customers disillusioned. The brand’s nostalgic value can no longer mask its systemic issues.
I recommend In-and-Out Bugers where a double meat burger is only $5.20 including tax!
Don’t get me wrong the food quality is good when I receive the correct order, it’s just that I prefer to get what I ordered and payed for more often especially when it’s nearing $15.
