The problem is the price – the pictured burrito, as girthy as it is, cost 17 dollars. (It came with a handfull of tortilla chips and nothing to dip them in) This resturaunt suffers from the “everything beyond ground beef costs extra” business model. Some of the more eggregious items are:
+1$ extra for a tortilla (The item is listed as burrito on their menu, not burrito bowl)
+2-3$ price hike for any change in protein
+2$ dollar price hike for a scoop of guacamole
+3-4.50$ dollar price hike for extra protein
Maybe good to go once for the novelty, but if you eat here regularly you may have to take out a loan.
You order food at counter then they bring your food to your table. Order alcoholic drinks at another counter, odd set up. Food is great.
Totally worth the money (honestly was totally reasonable for the amount of shredded steak in my taco)
Just go! Make sure you grab enough napkins or a towel lol
Sign on the door said live music tonight (Friday).
Deck is super nice. Staff was super friendly. Give you a plus one for the free water!
Showed up at the given estimated time and only had to wait a couple of minutes for my order to be ready.
The chips were as you’d expect, lightly seasoned. Nothing to write home about. The spicy queso was perfect, not too hot and thick and creamy.
The tacos were cooked to perfection. Crispy tortilla, melty cheese and tender beef and the consomme was also a nice addition.
I’ll have to try their acai bowl next time.
The only downside in my opinion is the pricing. If you are on a tight budget, there are more affordable options to choose from in Oswego. Albeit, not as unique or delicious.
Update #2. They appeared to have a more limited selection this week due to supply issues.
Again I ordered their chips and spicy queso. The queso did feel a bit spicier / hotter than the previous time I tried it. Not detrimentally so, but was a surprise. I like spicy foods.
This time I did have their OG Gringo Acai bowl to provide a nice fresh and cool chaser to their spicy queso.
Personally I have never had an Acai bowl before, but the fruit all tasted very fresh. The portion itself did feel like a little more than I expected, but for the price it was good. I could probably make two lunches out of the one Acai bowl unless this is just a normal portion for this type of food. Not sure.
Update #3 as I tried their new Sunday breakfast menu.
I ordered one of each of their breakfast tacos on the menu, and also tried the chorizo breakfast Omelette.
The tacos were absolutely delicious. My friend tried the birria & chorizo taco, and I tried the potato & chorizo taco.
The omelette was quite the wakeup call as well with a good amount of heat / spice for an omelette.
Laying my eyes upon the QuesoBirra I knew this was the beginning of a new core memory in my life.
It smelled of pure joy, and the look of these tacos, was devine. It was as if Gordan Ramsey incarnate came down and placed these morsels of Joy in front of us.
The taste of both of these tacos is almost undefineable. We both had to take a moment after taking and recompose our self as our taste buds hit an all time high. The love and care of these cooks was on full display!
There is no other taco place in Oswego, there is only Wacko Gringo. I was skeptical about this place originally, but it is easily my favorite now. Plus the people working there are wonderful, kind and detail how they cook their food.
