Islington is fortunate to have no shortage of excellent restaurants – Trullo, Fredericks, Bellanger, The Draper’s Arms and The Pig and Butcher, just to name a few. But for me Westerns Laundry stands head and shoulders above the rest.

We’ve visited on a few occasions, most recently for lunch, and it never fails to exceed our high expectations. The cooking here is consistently thoughtful and exciting — a collective mix of genuinely interesting dishes built around fresh, seasonal ingredients, with clever flavour combinations, contrasting textures and beautiful presentation. Its refined but deeply satisfying.

On this visit, the undisputed coup de grâce was the rabbit: served in a dreamy, gently creamy mustard sauce and cooked to absolute perfection by Jamie. Hats off to Craig, who I understand conceived the dish. The meat was tender and deeply flavourful, with delicate crisp skin and a richness that was beautifully balanced by the sauce. Alongside it, a buttery vol-au-vent filled with torn rabbit added another indulgent layer of texture and flavour.

I’ve been fortunate to have had some extraordinary meat dishes in my culinary lifetime — melt-in-the-mouth lechon in Cebu in the Philippines, impossibly soft seekh kebabs in Bademiyas behind the Taj Mumbai, and perfectly pink duck cooked over coals in the markets of Bordeaux. This rabbit is a dish that will stay etched in my memory for a long time.

The service at Westerns Laundry is equally impressive: warm, knowledgeable and delightfully unpretentious. Greg and Ali are clearly passionate about their F&B and they always make us feel like we are being welcomed into the home of friends. On this occasion we were also superbly looked after by Iza. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Loved this place. The service, the food, the vibe, absolutely everything. We only had space on the counter which aside from the non super comfortable chairs was a great experience as we had first look in the kitchen and had an amazing waiter in front of us always taking care of of us. The courgette and pork are a must try. One of my favourite eats of 2025 so far

Really delicious spot for seafood dishes – we loved the raw mackerel, the feta with peppers, the smoked trout and the octopus rice. The staff was very friendly and the service was well paced. The tables are set up for communal seating, which can be a bit tight for mid-sized groups (we didn’t mind as we were just 2 of us and it was for a late lunch on Sunday, so the place wasn’t too busy). It’s a bit pricy, but well worth it. Will definitely be back!

Really glad we found this place, a real gem of a restaurant in the Highbury area with a relatively hidden albeit stunning outdoor area. Our friends had visited a number of times and claim it to be one of their favourite restaurants.

We visited as a group of 4 for dinner on a Thursday night, the food cannot be faulted and there’s something for everyone – vegetarians included.

They have quite an extensive wine list and the glassware really adds to the experience.

In terms of price, it’s certainly not the cheapest place and with starters, mains, dessert & wine our bill came in at around £100pp.

Definitely worth the money and a place we are absolutely going to visit again.

I recently had lunch at a restaurant that is well worth a visit! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with friendly and attentive service, which set a warm and inviting tone.

The food was delicious from start to finish. The boquerones were delicately marinated and a real treat as a starter. The grated carrots with smoked ricotta were fresh and had a nice balance of flavors.

The pollack was well-cooked, though the accompanying chanterelles were slightly overcooked for my taste. However, the dish was still flavorful and satisfying overall.

To finish, the dessert was the highlight: a white chocolate mousse paired with rhubarb, which added just the right amount of tartness to balance the sweetness of the chocolate.

I’d happily return for another visit!

This is a truly hidden gem in Highbury, North London. It’s not super well-known among influencers/creators, so I really mean it when I say it’s underrated. This seafood-forward neighbourhood spot serves up natural wines, a fresh seasonal menu, and seriously good vibes . I also loved the decor – think vintage vases, wooden chairs, high ceilings… rustic but stylish. What a vibe

What we had:
– Tagliatelle with fresh seafood
– A perfectly cooked pork chop
– Seared scallops
– House bread & panelle
– Cucumber with a punchy dressing
– Beans with anchovy
– seasonal salads
– Kombucha, cordial, and root soda
– Earl Grey (on the house!)

Freshly made, delicate flavours, and great vibes – plus a beautiful airy space tucked away on Drayton Park.

Would definitely come back for the scallops and pasta alone!

Me and my friend had a nice dinner last night. It seems that the menu changes every day. Each dish we ordered was so good, especially the chicken heart&liver, pasta and dessert definitely will be back sometime soon.

This place was incredible. I went with two friends and we shared everything. Every single dish was a flavour explosion and so fresh. We loved everything. The restaurant itself is stunning with lovely mood lightening. Staff are friendly and attentive and are knowledgeable about the wine and menu. Only downside is portion sizes are more on the small size and it’s on the pricier side but my god it’s worth it. Would highly recommend!

Me and my partner came here for dinner recently and it was 10/10! We booked pretty last minute and were sat at the counter and had the most wonderful time, our server Yas was super friendly, funny and helpful. Their recommendations were spot on, every dish was a banger. The baked crab rice was a standout but even the vegetarian dishes held their own and were very well balanced and worth the price tag. Atmosphere was also great, 80s true romantic tunes playing through the evening but never too loud to distract from your conversation. If I could rate this experience 6 stars on here I would!!
